It might not be exactly as i said. But playing through HL2 with the gun is :master:

That didn't take long. :)

Actually when you think about it, its really obvious.

Old news... and you shouldn't have to extract or move any files around to get this to work... all that probably does is add the map names to the console autocomplete. They should work even on an out-of-the-box Portal.

You know, I'm playing through Half-Life 2 for the first time... and I think it's really, really, really mediocre. I'm not really having fun... I'm just playing through it for the sake of playing through it and so I can SAY I played it.

Anyway, when I read about this.... oh... two days after OB came out, and watched a video with it, it looked interesting, and fun, but I doubt having the Portal gun would make Half-Life 2 fun, for me, for anymore than an hour or two.

And really, if I want fun with the Portal gun for that amount of time, I'll just play Portal :P

isn't this like your 3rd time playing Hl2 for the first time?
I had a blog. It sucked.

Well, technically second overall. I gave up on the PC version months ago because it literally bored me out of continuing.

First time though, playing it on the Xbox (You'll recall there's two versions, OB on the 360 and just plain HL2 on the Xbox) and I'm only really doing it now, because of achievements. I get points. Points are cool. I don't really care about my gamerscore, I just like getting achievements.

All of what I said though, I find interesting. Sometimes my opinion of a game changes after a few play throughs. I honestly expected that to happen with HL2, and it hasn't. I passed where I stopped on the PC last night, and I still feel the same way about it. It's just... not fun in alot of places, and I don't understand how it was so highly rated.

And for the record, I LOVE HL1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift.

I hated the parts where you raced through the canals in that damn boat and the parts with the antlions, but once you get past those parts is gets pretty fun... Even Ravenholm was ok to play if not for those damn zombies.

frick, zombies creep me out.

Yes. The driving was horrible. Not so much because it was driving, but because of how long those parts were dragged out. The airboat goes on for how long? 45 minutes AT LEAST. And for the last half you're being dogged by a chopper you can't shoot back at. The car was a better, but still went on for too long.

The only part I've really had a lot of fun with so far has been storming Nova Prospekt with the Antlions.

I realize that this is Half-Life, and as such, there aren't any cutscenes, which means you're going to be doing alot to get from point A to point B sometimes. But in Half-Life 1, that was fun, because things happened, and it didn't take forever to get somewhere, since Black Mesa was small in comparison to where ever the hell you are in Half-Life 2.

I think that's my biggest gripe. The time it takes to get from one point of interest and piece of plot development, to the next point of interest/piece of plot development, is far too long in almost all cases.

The episodic games are much better than HL2, much more going on in terms of plot.

I just wish they'd quit it with the damn barnacles, they don't do much except get in the way and creep me out, same with the uber-facecrabs. I'd rather fight real enemies.

Amen to that.

Brrr.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

No offense, but the airboat sequence is 20 minutes if you're SLOW.

10 minutes if you know what you're doing.

I did the airboat sequence multiple times because I thought it was so cool.
[edit]

I guess I'm not taking into account the part where the big wooden boards swing and take out the bridge, you can skip through that and shoot the barrels through holes in the bridge and cut off a big chunk of time.

I couldn't figure out a certain obstacle early on during the airboat part, first time playing HL2, so I walked the rest of the way. The Hunter chopper, which would normally rip you up, got stuck and couldn't chase, and the tunnels filled with radioactive waste, which should have been impassible, could be avoided by stepping on the areas where the waste meets the pipes.

Yeah. But I could only get so far.

I loved every minute of HL2, Except that retarded turret point in Nova Prospect when they sent every combine on the planet to get you and your three turrets.
2007-10-27, 11:23 AM #17
That really wasn't hard.

I had to look up what the barnacle enemy was. They're such a small threat, I honestly forgot about them. I think they're there for comic relief by killing your enemies for you and making them eat explosive barrels. Gets me every time.

The barnacles were cool in the caverns of Ep2. It's a nice reversal to have your enemies taking out other enemies.

Antlions Vs Combine was fun too.

So I played all the way through HL2, and both episodes, and the only one I really, really enjoyed, was Episode 2. For some reason, it kept feeling the most like old school Half Life.

That, and the Antlion battle in the cave was both hilarious and completely awesome.
