Red Sox Riots!

Wooh! I just got back! I know there's a thread about the game, but this one's about the mayhem! I wore my suprlus battle helmet from my halloween costume just in case... the cops have HUGE batons (not that the helmet would really help).

Mass chaos swept the streets, there was flashing, pole-climbing, building climbing, some guy climbed up like 3 stories, fireworks in the middle of the street, people puking in the crowd... in short CHAOS!

So, talk about the Sox riots or any other riots you've experienced! This ranks as my #2 riot, second after a political riot I was at in Mexico when I was in high school... THAT was intense.

Anyway, WOOH RED SOX! Let's riot about it! :neckbeard:

(p.s. if it's not obvious, I go to school in Boston)

Like I said in the other thread. Police were at our campus SECONDS after the Sox won. The moment we won my dorm SHOOK with EVERYONE leaving their room and running out to the Quad! Fireworks, people climbing trees, we had a massive projection of the game on the side of a building. Everyone was just freaking out. Awesome times.
Think while it's still legal.

San Diego will explode into (yet another) fireball if the Padres/Chargers win a championship.

So San Diego is forever safe!

I've posted this before, but here's my last riot:

Not exactly a riot but I got arrested at a protest once.
The protest didn't last long, the police cracked down on everyone fast and the entire group of us were hemmed in next to a wall for 2 - 3 hours and then the police bus turned up all grey and barred windows and a policeman arrested me "to prevent a breach of the peace". Considering everyone had been calm and just wanted to go home by this point it was pretty ridiculous. I was released only a few minutes after being arrested thanks to an honest copper who played by the rules and found I could not be arrested on such BS charges as a minor (I was 16 at the time). Several of my friends weren't so lucky.
The police were eventually sued for unlawful arrests and false imprisonment by a group of the protestors.

Apparently a car was turned over, but I did not see this.

Also, according to my school's newspaper, there was a signifcant amount of flashing, but I was only around for one instance of this, and by the time I turned my head, all I caught was an ashamed looking girl buttoning up her Red Sox jersey surrounded by a mob of guys waving dollar bills. Talk about a buzzkill! Oh, and some guy flashing everyone because no more women would. :S

P.S. MacFarlane: was that riot in Denmark? I'm going there next semester for study abroad! What brought you to Denmark? (or, are you Danish?)

Yep. March 3, right after the police evicted Ungdomshuset. (If you're not familiar with Ungdomshuset, look it up, you'll probably hear a lot about it in Denmark.) I studied abroad there last spring semester. Are you in the DIS program? If so... not to put a damper on your enthusiasm, but show up ready to work. They take their academic program pretty seriously. Of course, it didn't help that my university required me to take at least five courses when most everyone else was taking four.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll have a great time. Copenhagen's a fun city.

I've witnessed two "riots", both of which were instigated by Students for a Democratic Society (Formally a peaceful group during Vietnam, it's leadership got overthrown, and now it's an Anarchist's Group). Both of these took place in Washington DC during Anti-war protests.

The first was when I was at my first anti-war protest in 2002. We were marching down First Street, and there was this crazy conservative guy on a box next to two mounted policemen. The crazy guy started telling all the SDS guys to get a job, etc. Me and my friends thought it was pretty funny, but SDS kids have a stick up their *** since their dad hit them or whatever, and started yelling at the guy, then the police came in, which only antagonized them. They started beating on the guy, then beating on the horses, then the cops maced a kid, and the second one fired a tear gas grenade into the crowd of anarchists.

It was kind of a surreal scene, hundreds of anarchists running away from clouds of tear gas right in front of the Supreme Court Building.

Then second time, earlier this year. (March or January, I can't remember which) The march had ended, the crowds had dispersed, but SDS was on the prowl. We're walking down to Potbelly's, to get a sandwich and decompress a little. This crowd of 50 SDS kids jump into the street, in front of a police car. They swarmed the car, they were slamming on the hood, etc. The police car just starts moving, they get out of the way, and jump in front of another car. They start to do the same, but this time they were breaking glass, etc. They tried to pull the guy out, but the cop had gotten out at this point and threatened to fire into the crowd. They dispersed, and we got delicious sandwiches.

SDS makes the rest of us look bad.

I didn't realize that new SDS was that intense! They never seem to get any press. (Not that press is entirely indicative of reality :S)

MacFarlane: Which school do you go to? (if you don't mind my asking?)

I'm not doing DIS, I'm just transferring into Copenhagen Business School for an exchange semester. I'm pretty sure I'll be taking four courses.

I don't mind. I've actually mentioned it on here before, I think. I'm a senior at Northwestern.

There were several students from Copenhagen Business School in the kollegium where I lived last spring. I don't really know a lot about the school though.

I know it isn't really a riot, but what ever happened to that video that a massassian a year back or so claimed he would post of some stunt that him or his friends pulled involving streaking across the center of the field in a football game. He said something about them coming up out of the sewer drain or something in the stadium. Was this ever posted?

I was at a street dogs concert on friday night and we knocked over the rail when they were playing a song for the redsox.

Intense. I'm pretty sure my foot is broken.
