I know how to use both, but I'm still not good at the stick shift.

I've only driven an automatic, but I'm pretty confident I'd get away with a stick if I was in a pinch.

How can you not know how to use an automatic..?

I drive both. My truck is manual & the cruisers are auto.
woot!

I really want to learn how to drive a manual, but I have no car to practice with. We had a rental for a few days this summer though, and I logged about 1.5 hours with that, so I'm KIND OF familiar with it.

I can drive auto. I can get by on a manual but not enough to say I can drive one.

I am needing to learn.

I've been driving a manual for 7 years. I must have had a bad day yesterday because I stalled it for the first time in like 4 years and I grinded the gears too.

Don't have access to a car to learn manual yet.

first car was manual.

Manual is way more fun than automatic. Though there's something to be said for good CVT systems as well; I got to test-drive an Audi with one in it and it was great.

Also my one buddy has an old army truck with a manual transmission; it's incredibly easy to use because it simply will not stall out.

I CAN USE ALL THREE!!!

In Germany, if you pass your test on an automatic, you're only allowed to drive an automatic. But only hopeless people do that.
Sorry for the lousy German

Learned to drive on a manual, drove one for over a year before I got my current vehicle. I miss it, but i'm not gonna go out and specifically look for a manual vehicle when my current one dies.

I know how to drive stick, just never done it.

I kind of know how to drive a manual. But I've never taken any formal tests. And as such I can't actually drive.

I've driven all 3 and am comfortable doing so, just as long as there are no stationary objects (larger or smaller than my vehicle) within about 10 square km.

I used to drive manual transmission vehicles only (a lot of punch from a complete stop!), but I was pretty hard on the transmissions, so now I drive automatics.

I have no desire to get a CDL licence, because then my school would expect me to drive one of the buses.

I don't think I will ever buy an automatic. I really love manuals.

I've driven a manual, but I wouldn't say I'm good enough to vote for the option.

I drive a 5 speed now, and I really enjoy it. Every time I hop into an automatic now, though, I press for the clutch at least once. This either involves my foot hitting nothing or me pressing the brake way too hard. :downs:

I've only ever had a manual as my personal car. I drive automatics all the time, though, because I don't know anyone else with a standard.

If I ever buy a car, I'm getting an automatic. If I ever buy a truck/jeep/suv or what have you, I will get a manual. It's way more fun, and I love control.

manual is no longer standard. in fact in most cases one must pay extra for a manual transmission these days.

I don't know what kind of vehicles you're referring to, but manual is cheaper on most I've looked at. True, though, it's hardly standard anymore. A lot of trucks don't even have it as an option..it sucks.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure it's never more expensive.

This seems incredibly stupid. The whole point of the a truck is to haul things around, and you really want a manual to do that.

It's probably a result of people buying cars because they want to look like they would actually use it for it's intended purpose, and then just commute to work in it.

A good auto transmission isn't necessarily bad for towing.

I only voted manual because I've never actually been in an automatic car in my life, let alone driven one.

Also, how does a taxi differ from driving an auto/manual? I can see how a bus does...
nope.

I was under the impression the intent of the taxi/bus poll option was to determine which Massassians know how to take a taxi/bus, not to determine which of us are able to drive one..? :psyduck:

Am I the only person here that actually prefers to drive an automatic? I like the feel, and plus if you know the car well enough, you can "shift" it just by pressing the gas pedal to the proper positions. ;)
2007-10-30, 12:12 PM #32
If by shift you mean just rev the engine up when its already shifting. :p

I can drive both, but I only have an automatic.

This is true. My family has an older GMC pickup truck, with an automatic, and man if you stick that thing into lowrange it'll pull anything. I've pulled tree stumps out of the ground with it.
