Hell yes.

Anyway, it's a Pirates! interview and the guy says they should be finished October/November.

...There's games out now that are likely already better than DOOM 3 or Half-Life 2.

there's nothing too graphically impressive about that game... nothing near HL2 or D3 quality...

Yes, actually. However, no game, no matter how awesome, makes Doom III or Half-Life 2 any worse, they should still be amazing games. Let it go.

I'm still confused about what STALKER is actually about. Is it based off the Chernobyl accident, or some military experiment some years later? Reading the General Articles section just made me confused :/.

No, but this game won't be better. It's just going to be different. I personally can't see myself really enjoying this game, but hey, to each his own. Give me Starcraft any day.

Haha, age verification to enter the site [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

But yeah, that game looks pretty sweet, and to my knowledge, uses the HL2 Source engine.

...the Pirates of the Carribbean game sounds VERY similar to Pirates!... except that Pirates! has some elements of Fable thrown in and less of a structured story. But it does seem very similar to PotC, which was really Sea Dogs 2.

It takes place in the Chernobyl fallout area sometime in the near future. From what I've read, you play a scavenger/mercenary and you go into the radioactive area looking for scrap and such. I don't know what the rest of the story is all about, but it looks amazing.

F.E.A.R. looks like it could be something special too.

Heh, how can you argue which game is better when none are realest?
As far as cool potentia is concerned, thats a hard one to judge, but so far the only that compares imo with Doom 3 and Half Life 2, is Vampire: Bloodlines, those 3 all look awesome to me.
But I don't like the sound of the multiplayer aspect of bloodlines, it sounds as if its only going to be vs :\

Disney screwed Seadogs 2 over . The team has broken relations with Bethesda and is working on the "true" sequel to Sea Dogs , which should be coming within a year. It should have open-ended quests for all nations. The great thing about POTC is that it's so easy to modify stuff. I've already replaced the dinky cannon sounds and pistol shots, reduced the volume of the repetitive sail flap-flap sound, made cannon blasts expels massive clouds of cordite and gunpowder fumes (instead of the original dinky puffs), made the ship-board fires trail longer and thicker, and made the pistol-shot smoke linger for longer (like black-powder shot should). All just by replacing some .wavs and editing some .ini's in notepad.

In the meanwhile, piratesahoy.net hosts an excellent mod called Build. It adds lots of things such as coastguards and raiders sailing territorial waters, the ability to court and marry governors' daughters (as in the original and new Pirates!), difficulty levels, better crew payment options (i.e. splitting the loot or monthly payment), more quests, the Man of War, the ability to change your player-model and skin, more swords, and plenty of other features.

The new Pirates! sounds really fun . It's a Sid Meier update of a Sid Meier game which makes it an almost compulsory purchase on those grounds alone. The only thing I'm slightly worried about is that it supposedly doesn't take very long to beat and it seems very "mini-game" based. But I guess that like any Sid Meier game you can just up the difficulty and replay it a lot to your heart's satisfaction. Besides, you can get your own pet parrot!

On a somewhat related note, I'm really hoping that some day some team will make a really ambitious, extensive and large simulator for 17th-19th century ships with as much attention to detail as something like IL2 Sturmovik or Silent Hunter. I want 3 hour duels between massive ships of the line, I want to fight AI that knows to try to keep me windward, I want a non-hitpoint based damage model (to have shots below the water-line smash holes in the hull, knock cannons out of action, disable a rudder with a well aimed shot), I want Marines up in the rigging trying to pick-off sailors on opposing decks, I want to be able to mix & match to load cannons with double-shot (two cannon-balls) or canister shot on top of solid shot, I want swivel guns, I want to have to tack when sailing windward, I want gunports so that I'm not always running with my cannons out, I want the ability to raise colours and to force my opponents to lower them, I want to change history by defeating the HMS Victory and USS Constitution, I want to shell Tripoli and take on the Barbary Corsairs, I want to have a salary dependent on how many prize-ships I take, I want scurvy and gangrene!

It's pro'lly because I've been reading a crapload of C.S. Forester's Hornblower books and Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey & Maturin series as of late [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] . But, there's gotta be a market for this kind of stuff. Flight-sims are popular, but there really hasn't been any nitty-gritty realistic Ship o' the Line sim.
