People just don't like allowing them to be harvested because they are very friendly to ships and people, which is reasonable.

It's hardly the sensational crap that people make it out to be, nature involves killing for food, but it's pretty reasonable to protect dolphins. It's just like with dogs.

chinese river dolphins and indus river dolphins are endangered. the rest are not.

the only reason people dont want to kill dolphins is because they are cute, lovable, and supposedly intelligent. it would be like slaughtering chimpanzees or having a puppy harvest. hell i would narrow it down to cute, because i bet plenty of people would be on board for a coyote or wolf slaughter.

I assumed that they were, since they're in the area of the kinds of dolphins which are usually endangered. But doesn't slaughtering (admittedly) cute, intelligent, friendly, and helpful creatures bother you at all? In any way? Regardless of endangerment or not. Think about it.

Christ guys, some dolphins are more intelligent than just mildly retarded kids. While you might think that unimpressive, think about that--another creature on earth besides a primate that can communicate, love, have a family, and knows it exists. More intelligent than a dog (wait don't we call killing dogs animal cruelty? lol), and quite a BIT more intelligent than something like a hamster, gerbil, ferret, et al (considering killing THEM is also animal cruelty...).

Why is it wrong to kill an animal just because it's smart? Many animals kill animals that are just as smart or smarter than themselves. That's just their diet. Real life involves killing. Civilization has made so many people so sheltered. It's the way the world works.

Not to mention they're the only other species besides humans that have sex just for fun.

Except that's "survival of the fittest". There's a reason civilization exists--and works. We should be above that. We shouldn't have to do that. Also, some animals eat their young if they're hungry, or if the young are unfit or cause them more trouble than their worth.

4. IMO slaughtering any endangered species is wrong no matter how intelligent they supposedly are. Infact I'm fairly sure it's illegal. :/

If you people can't understand why sentient, high function animals should be given respect and defense against unnecessary human slaughter, than I'm not sure how you can claim to oppose things like the holocausts. I am personally a lot less favorable towards animals than a majority of the people here since I think caring about killing your food is detrimental to survival, but killing an animal for no reason just seems like a waste of life.
