I've always been confused by the people who enjoy hearing spoilers for a particular book/movie/tv show yet they regularly follow the story. Obviously there are those who don't really care about the particular story, or they are simply trying to catch up with the story and thus the summaries of what has already happened can include the spoilers. However, there are also movies that sometimes give away a little too much information for the upcoming film, and thus some people may try to avoid seeing trailers all-together.

I personally am not a fan of spoilers. If it's for something I really care about (i.e. when Revenge of the Sith, Pirates 3, and any other films with potential spoiler/plot hinting trailers) I try to avoid watching any previews for it so the entire film could be unspoiled for me. Also, there's of course the Harry Potter book craze where spoilers are attacked and leaked almost instantly. I know a few of my friends who watch Lost and they read all the spoilers they can find before the new episode begins.

These are just a few examples, but share movies/shows/or books that you have intentionally tried to avoid the hype and potential spoilers, or even ones that you have tried to find out information on that you were still excited to later watch or read.

I avoid almost all trailers, now. I just hate having the awe of the movie ruined by the trailer.

I skip everything but the trailers. Because the trailers are where I tend to find out about new films. :P
nope.

I avoid spoilers, but I'll watch the trailer for a film because it's the most obvious way to judge if it's worth seeing.

Trailers make me all tingly.

But some spoilers are okay, because I still pretty much feel the same way when I see it. Reading about it doesn't really have the same impact as seeing it.

I read spoilers for some things that I like to keep tabs on, but not actually spend the time to watch (Heroes, House, a few other things).

But things I actually watch (Lost, BSG), I try to remain spoiler free as possible. Although with previews giving away huge plot twists this days... even that is hard.

As for trailers... some trailers do a really good job at building hype without giving away awesome parts of the movie (or they give you the tiniest glimpse of it), others just give away the best/most suspensful parts, and that's just dumb.

I'm not quite getting the people who avoid trailers like the plague. What do you do at the cinema?
nope.

Yeah, I'd rather not see trailers, but wouldn't go so far as to cover my eyes and scream "LALALALALA" every time a trailer comes on.

I was more referring to the trailers you see on TV, or intentionally going out and looking at the trailers for the said movie. When you're actually at the movie theater it's kind of a different story. I saw the Episode III trailer at the movie theater, but I guess it didn't feel as spoilerific because I was sitting in the place where I'd eventually watch it anyways.

Also, like you said earlier, obviously trailers are a good thing when you're finding out about new movies you hadn't heard of, but once again I was referring more to the trailers of ones that you were excited to see and maybe didn't want plot points revealed.

Even seeing it?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Then you don't know that Darth Vader isn't REALLY Luke's father!

Oh. Whoops.
