Child's Play Charity 2007
2007-11-03, 10:09 PM #1
http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

Child's Play Charity has just kicked off for the 2007 holiday season.

For the few Massassians unfamiliar with this charity, it's a charity dedicated to children stuck in hospitals across the country (and the globe). The charity collects donations in the form of the usual paypal cash, or by ordering item from an Amazon wishlist. The money (and items bought) is used for video games, board games, and other entertainment/education for children in hospitals. It allows the kids to do something fun, when they otherwise would be confined to sit and waste away on their beds.

It's a wonderful cause, I've chipped in myself the past two years. As usual, I'll be taking all payments for my webhosting this month and giving it to Child's Play. If anyone else wants to chip in (and basically make it a "Massassi donation"), that'd be awesome. Read this post: http://forums.massassi.net/vb3/showthread.php?p=868891#post868895 to do so.

Otherwise, you're more than welcome to visit the site and donate accordingly.

Some Random Info:

A. Yes, this is ran by the folks at Penny Arcade
B. Yes, this is a true charity, and is sponsored by many companies.
C. You can't donate your used games, as the hospitals require strict sterilization measures so as not to have the kids become sick(er).
D. Last year they raised a whopping $1,000,000.00
E. If you don't have the money but want to help, spread the word!

Thanks guys!

I didn't have any money last year, and I likely wont have any this year, but I've got lots of people I know to see it.

I might toss in a couple bucks into the massassi fund. Will you make it paypal so I can even send 5? Hell, if everyone at massassi pitched a dollar, we'd have quite a bit.

Also, I learned how awesome videogame were on a hospital bed. Aladdin, Ninja Turtles, and Zelda were my first hospital games. I beat Zelda several times over in the game room at my old hospital after having spend 3 months recovering from a serious back surgery. You can't possibly imagine how videogames help you get away from your pain.

I have absolutely no money at the moment, I don't get paid at my new job til later this month. Keep the thread alive til then to remind me to pitch in!

I love making a massassi contribution, it's a great thing for us to do as a community. didn't we have a paypal account set up for this last year? I can't remember how I donated

I like that you can look at the specific hospital's lists, I might buy something on it for Alder Hey in Liverpool. and thinking about it (Britassians), shouldn't Great Ormond St be on there? Or would that not work as they have their own charity?

I have a job this year, so I'll definitely be contributing. I was completely broke last time around, and I was massively disappointed that I couldn't help out.

I'll certainly be donating to Alder Hey. I was in there a bunch of times when I was younger, for varying reasons, and I owe them a lot. I'd also be up for a Massassi Donation as well.

Can we sticky this thread? Like maeve I'm on monthly pay, and I'm expecting a fair amount of cash at the end of this month.

I think I'm going to forward this information to the children's healthcare charity my company runs and see if they do anything with it.

Yeah I won't be sending my cash in until December, so just PM me when you all want to throw it in.

Aye, I think it's about time for the second great Massassi charity donation.

Yay, I started a yearly event! :D

Last year we all sent the cash to Dud who then donated it. And Dud, I promise I'll post you that $10. :P
nope.

you guys amaze me.. half of you are like "I don't have any money... But how can I donate a small amount? I want to chip in $5."

That's awesome.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Personally, I'm surprised it's been a year since the last one already. Time's flown by since then. I'm actually pretty excited to be able to donate this year, since I really wanted to last time around. :D

I'll do it again.

I'll probably set up a gmail account (Massassifunds), and associate a paypal account with it, and then have people send me an email to the above address stating who they are (handle), and how much they donated.

I'll even throw all donations into a 5% savings account I have, and then donate any interest earned off of it.

Check back in a few days for account/donation info.

[edit- JediKirby - I believe it was between $200 and $300. I'll get the exact amount for you in my next post.]

[edit2- It was 178.83. (Stuid exchange rates...) I think we can easily break $250 this year. Lets make it happen!)

BTW, by doing this - I meant actually doing the buying of gifts through their page. I didn't know Massassi still had a donation program for it. :eng101:

I'm probably still going to go straight through Amazon though. I have Amazon.com prime membership, so it's free 2-day shipping for all the gifts
2007-11-04, 11:56 AM #17
ADDITIONAL INFO:

Send it in good time before the Christmas Rush and things like that, because my bloody donation didn't even make it to Dud last year. :argh:

Therefore I'm technically donation twice as much this year I guess because I've been too lazy to get off my *** and send the money to him.
nope.
