i'm going to get a laptop right after christmas. i have 2 acer desktops and i like both of them. brand name hardware all working well.

what should i look for in a laptop? it will be a 15", have 2GB RAM, bluetooth, and i don't really care about maximum storage.

Love my Thinkpad. They're expensive, though.
Sorry for the lousy German

i appreciate the input but macbook pro? i'm not a millionaire and what money i do have is set in a budget. in other words i'm not spending $3000 on a laptop.

which brings me to, why the **** do people kick out 3 grand for a laptop? i mean even a macbook can run you $2500+. acer, toshiba, hp, et al can provide the same hardware for 66% that.
plus, i'm not cool enough to own something from apple.

15" mbp 2.2GHz - $2199CDN
15" mbp 2.4GHz 40GB larger hdd - $2799CDN ($500 more for 200MHz and 40GB storage)(apple can **** off!)
17" mbp 2.4GHz higher res screen - $3099CDN ($300 more for 2 more inches)(apple can **** off and die!)

upon further investigation, these prices may be in line with other manufacturers on some level. my bias comes from the $1200 13" macbooks where their counterparts are several hundred dollars less. easily. 14" acer's for $800 comparably equipped.

Well what's wrong with the first one? It isn't $3,000 like you said, and it is within spec of what you wanted (screen size, ram, storage.)

They're really not.

Fake edit: I was going to do a good comparison but Acer's website is so terrible that I can't be arsed to compare specs and prices.

Plus, there is a big difference between 13" and 14". It's a lot smaller, lighter, and runs longer on batteries.

I'm a big fan of HP, the new Pavilions are VERY nice. But I'd be wary of windows vista until all the bugs are worked out. Its pretty to look at and that's about it.
KABOOM YO!

The only "bugs" in Vista are bad drivers from hardware manufacturers failing. Most of that's been taken care of now I think.
