Video Music Players?
2007-11-08, 12:38 PM #1
I've currently got a 60 gig iPod video. I currently have it full with videos and music. I am really enticed by zune 2, though. I'd like to have a video music player with a wide screen as opposed to a small screen.

My mother is willing to buy my 60 gig ipod for $150, and I have a few gift cards from a while back that are still good. I'm willing to spend 300 dollars on a music player that also supports video, and is over 50 gigs in size. I know Zune 2 is only 30 gigs right now, but I'm willing to bet they'll have 60 and 80 gig sizes after Christmas.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a player other than the zune 2 that has a wide screen, high storage capacity, and can play lossless formats out of the box? I'd personally like to be able to play FLAC, but I only know of the zens, and I don't think any of those are video. I also really like the zune 2's wifi features.

Any ideas/opinions?

Look at PMPs (portable multimedia players) from Cowon and Archos. Cowon has their iAudio A2 that has been around for a while, and is a good choice but probably can't hold up to the Zune 2 in terms of things like WiFi. The A3 model does, I think, but I'm not sure when it'll be out.

The Zune (and 2) does not have widescreen. It's 320x240. And the Zune 2 does not come in 30GB.

There's the iPod touch, but the capacity is limited.

Correction: Zune 1 is 30GB. Zune 2 isn't even released yet. (Scheduled for the 13th alongside new software and firmware compatible with Zune 1.)

Zune 2 will initially be available in 80, 8, and 4GB variants. The latter two being flash players. Some rumors indicate a possible 30GB Zune 2 sometime in the future which would basically be a remodeled Zune 1.

The new Zunes come in 4, 8, 30, and 80gb sizes, and should be available soon. I want the Zune 80.

I'm looking forward to the Zune 2 because I want the firmware update where my Zune gets all of the Zune 2's software features. I know some of them, but I haven't looked into it too much.

I'm considering a Zen Vision W, but it's 400 dollars. That's 3 times what I will have after selling my iPod, and it doesn't have any internet functionality.

I thought the zune was wide aspect ratio?
