internet "pirates" are sad

seriously people where is the risk to life and limb? where it the adventure? as what point in the process of sitting on your *** clicking links do you get to introduce someone's insides to the cold steel of your cutlass?

i am against all use of the word pirate and piracy in this context

all us true pirates must unite we must demand they stop with the tarnishing of the good name of pirate.. for the sake of the pirate children

ARRRRR!!!!!

I always wondered, Who called it pirating in the first place?
Pirates arrr awesome, Thus calling people who illegally download stuff pirates gives them an awesome sounding name. Why not "Hijackers"?

Last I heard, Morse really didn't invent the telegraph. He was simply the first person to patent something that was already in use.
"Flowers and a landscape were the only attractions here. And so, as there was no good reason for coming, nobody came."

Funny that these should be called the dark ages. I don't know what's changed but in recent weeks my torrent speeds have increased by at least a factor of 5. I have a question though; what exactly is the point of private trackers? The only difference seems to be that they have the files half an hour earlier than the public ones, but really if you're that impatient then you probably should be just buying it anyways.

Private trackers refuse connections from people who are not members, which means the people who use them cannot be tracked unless the site's records are subpoenaed. The big thing about private trackers is that you aren't supposed to discuss them with anybody else or link to them from offsite, ever.

Okay I guess that makes sense, and would definitely be handy for someone doing a high volume of torrenting.

Same probably goes for cds. How much of that actually goes to the band? I mean seriously, Borders has OK Computer (radiohead) for something like $20. At Best Buy its a lot less.

$0 goes to the band. Musicians get paid for playing the session, not for the record sales. Composers get what's called a mechanical royalty for their songs. In Canada it's 7.7 cents per minute for any tune under 5:00 I believe. Most rock bands write their own tunes but it's an important distinction people seem to not realize.

The reason CDs are expensive is because you buy them from a middleman (the HMV store in the mall or whatever) who marks up the price by around %100.

Music sales have risen quite a bit since pirating became big

I'm not really sure where you're coming from with this. The record industry has been shrinking pretty steadily for the past decade. Basically CD sales have declined big time while digital sales have only risen a little.

Also, hi.
