Does Norton 2004 sign you on to MSN messenger automatically?

I installed Norton 2004 this morning and I got on internet this afternoon and I got an instant message from someone and then I realized that I never signed myself on to MSN messenger, I looked through norton and disabled the instant messenger file security thinking that might be what was doing it, but I don't remember the manual saying anything about automatically signing you on?

You probably have msn set to sign you on automatically each time you connect to the internet. You can disable it in options.

No, I have it set so that it doesn't even open up when windows starts up, plus the icon wasn't in the system tray.

I found this on computergripes.com:

In addition, installing NAV also caused one of the "Messenger" programs (XP has three programs that all go by the name "messenger") to run during the first re-boot after installing NAV. Again, this happened on both Windows XP machines. I know it is the first time that this "messenger" ran because ZoneAlarm asked about allowing the Messenger program to access the Internet. I assume that messenger got kick started thanks to the default configuration of NAV 2004 which includes running shotgun over the MSN Messenger IM software. I guess to run shotgun over it, it must first start it up. Thanks for nothing NAV. </font>

I think that's what happened.

[EDIT]found this on the NAV support:

By asking the question in an MSN-specific group, I've got the solution to
this: it's related to the new Instant Messenger Scanning feature of recent
versions of NAV...

stop it, open Norton

Tray/Notification Area (by

Messenger then
> uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

So far I've not had a recurrence of the "signed in from different location"
problem since un-ticking the setting in NAV, so I think you've solved it for
me.</font>

I'm hoping that this fixes it.

Just thought I'd post it in case anyone else has this problem.
