More gun threads?

Also, your shaft is hairy. I didn't know hair grew on the shaft.

That set up was perfect! You're honestly going to use a common innuendo's for an excuse about hairy shafts? Convenient innuendo like this is rare.

I bet after the War, that gun killed a lot of people in Africa in petty wars in the '60s before coming over here. Neat!

that would be a 1944 Izhevsk standard refurb (the box with the slash above the date is a refurb mark... 99.9% of mosins in the US are refurbs) high production year (actually the highest with ~3.62 million made) standard hardwood stock commoon postwar sling and pouch (pouch is dated on inside under the flap looks like 1969... sling may or may not be dated) and it looks like the ammo might be hungarian or czech but could be albanian

oh and your sling is backwards dog collar buckles are correct but the adjustable end of the sling should be towards the butt of the rifle (going by wartime photos)

or it sat in storage in the soviet union for a while until it was put through the refurb process after which it likely sat in a ukranian salt mine until an importer came along and bought a lot of the rifles

Could your cat dodge my wheelchair? Even if she shoots out the tires, I can run for a good half mile on rims.

Thanks- I wasn't sure which way it should go.

The ammo is 'Silver Bear'...box says made in Russia. 203 grain bimetal SP, zinc plated case.

I believe that is so you can rig a loop sling. But that sling doesn't look like it would work well for that.

Yeah, I think our Garands at school also had the sling reversed.

garand = US rifle
mosin = russian rifle

just because we did it one way doesn't mean everyone did

Seems to be the original model as the bayonet mounting piece only has one ear.

I was under the impression that the Americans had picked up the loop sling from Northern/Eastern european shooters.

Oh well, looks like a fine rifle.

i believe it may have been more central europe... anyway the russians only used their slings for carry... some may have wrapped the sling around their arm when shooting but for the most part marksmanship was not the highest priority of russian military training during WW2... bayonet techniques and hand to hand tended to get more focus

Are you going to say that about plastic forks if I stab you to death with one?

They had another 1944 model, and a 1945; the 1945 gun had 'ears' on the bayonet mount...I chose this one because it was in the best overall condition (the other stocks were in a bit worse shape).

I would think you are a moron if you are showing off your collection of forks on the internet, yes.

There is nothing beautiful about forks. There is nothing interesting about them.

No thusly they suck.

I do from time to time, however, have the need to bang things and kill things.

I have my gun for the former and my rifles and pistols for the latter.
