Teenage Mutant ____ Turtles?

Is it Ninja or Hero? I got dragged into this argument between two people at work, and didn't actually realise how impassioned some people can get about the topic. Personally, I believe it's Ninja, because I'm fairly certain it was changed to Hero only when it was brought over to Europe because the connotations of "Ninja" were supposedly too violent. That's what I remember, anyway. I'm guessing the poll results will be skewed what with the majority of posters here being from the US, but I thought it'd be interesting.

Original (read: American) was 'Ninja'.

But Brits thought ninjas were too scary for children so they changed it to 'Hero'. So most of the versions aired in Europe were also "TMHT".

Zat's it.

Singing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song just doesn't sound nearly as cool with the word Hero in there.

I can't even say it.

Teenage Mutant Ninj---Hero---turtle?

It doesn't make sense, and my mind needs to practice it before I can put the words together.

I've never heard of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.

I grew up with the "Hero" turtles.

The film confused me.

Ninja turtles are better than hero turtles.

Everyone that calls them "hero" turtles should be forbidden to breed.

Another trivia bit for ya:

Not only was the word ninja changed to hero, Michaelangelo's Nunchaku was censored out because those weapons are outlawed in the UK. Mike later used a grappling hook weapon that included a turtle shell as part of the design.

Also, TMHT was the only title used for the 1987 cartoon and movies. The later 2003 cartoon and the TMNT movie that was shown recently this year retain the ninja in the name.

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles?

That's like... Transmorphers.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

They're literally turtles who are ninjas. I think the correct choice should be obvious.

Ninja all the way.

...is it Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Hero Turtles!

You have no idea how confusing all this is for a kid who doesn't understand the whole controversy. I always thought of them as Ninja Heros. Although it was Hero Turtles here.

I'm a Brit but it's ninja to me. My family tried to emigrate to Canada so I mainly saw it over there and when I came back my insistence on calling them ninja turtles was the cause of many stupid playground arguments.

To be fair, "teenage mutant ninja turtles" is an incredibly absurd title if you think about it. It's just so familiar that it seems natural.

ninja, because the BBFC are jerks who think that only kids watch tv shows, and that kids need protection from anything remotely resmbling a video nasty. (basicly, this sort of thing would happen in the US if not for the 1st ammendment and its wide rangeing protections, because you have the same proportion, if not great, of stuck up people who think that if something offends them, then it offends everyone)
