Is a Zune really all that different from an iPod? Or is it just company preference?

That and the brown ones are fugly. I've heard good things online about them, but none of my mates have one, so I've yet to have a play.

I can't really play the iCard either, as my iPod is ancient - I think it's 3rd or 4th gen (can't remember) but it was the last version to have a monochrome blue screen. Gets the job done though.

The Zune falls short on several fronts, which is why people bashing it...despite that, even falling short, it still does a lot more than a regular iPod. :downswords:

The new Zune 80GB is supposed to be extraordinary. I shall be picking one up soon, in fact

i have a zune 30gb, and love it. Especially after the massive update. There are valid complaints, but it's far from a failure.

In other news the battery on my iPod is finally starting to give up. What I need to figure out is whether or not in the age where I have a Nokia N95 I need to replace it...

Really? I didn't much care for the update. The larger GUI is kind of nice but it's a little overkill, and I miss all of the features the old Zune software had. They've really stripped a lot out of it.

Can't really comment on the new features because I haven't had time to fiddle with them yet. I'm going to try the lossless format just to see if I can hear a big enough difference for it to be worth the space. And, unfortunately, the wireless sinc was what I was looking forward to the most but I don't have an AC adapter or a doc to use it with. :(

I'm still missing a few pieces of album art after that update... It's annoying but nothing serious.

I want one of these.

30GB Zune at Toys-R-Us

Why Toys-R-Us? Because I think it's going to be $79.99 there on Black Friday and I can order it online for that price.

The battery on my iPod Mini gave up about two years after I bought it. I then paid for a replacement battery from an Apple shop (since it was well out of warranty), which lasted just under half a year. I still need to pick up a decent mp3 player, since at the moment I'm using a 256 MB flash player I got for £5 from ASDA. Such a shame to be poor :P

The brown ones will be $80.

I played with the 80gb zune at Best Buy the other day, I guess it's draw over the iPod touch is the size. I must say that the iPod Touch is superior in every way.

I say that you're wrong in every way.

(Then again the Zune was filled with empty promises from microsoft that makes this product a :downswords: purchase.

If the Zune had OS X support I would have bought it instead of spending time waiting for a proper video iPod. I've messed around with a few of them, they're nice devices. I didn't even mind the brown. Then again, I wear mostly natural colors so it works better for me.

I don't care what color it is if it's $80. I'll take a Care Bears Zune for that price.

Wait. Nevermind.

It's 16gb. Which is 2.

i'd rather spend less and get a better player with more capacity (i'm not talking about the zune either)... i don't need some overly fancy touch screen or a web browser or any of the other useless features

I understand the want to carry everything in your pocket - but seriously, not many people need more than 8GB, or 16GB. I have 55GB of music, but I don't listen to more than probably 4GB in any given month. My iPhone has the perfect amount of music (around 700 songs) and the perfect amount of video (roughly five movies) to keep me entertained until I want to swap out some content.

I don't think Jim is contesting that, rather the notion that the iPod Touch is superior in "every way" when clearly, it is not.

8GB is definitely enough for me (not counting videos) but if I can get a 30GB Zune that can play videos and has an FM tuner for $80 or an 8GB iPod Nano for $150 that would store less stuff I'm going with the Zune.

I like my iPod touch. Do I think it's superior in every way? No. I've seen other players that do some nifty things as well. I've also seen a hacked up iPod touch look really nice.

All about the preference.
