As I mentioned before, the land of permissions, security, and user rights is foreign to me.

I think I've got my kids account the way I want it. She has a couple games that run from the CD, but of course, the CD requires admin rights.

Is it possible to change the permissions on the CD, allow her games to run without having to type in my password everytime?

Probably. I wouldn't know where to look, especially since I have XP Home which lacks the Group Policy Editor which would probably have the setting needed. The linked Windows tool on the last page might have such a setting.

But... reading from a CD shouldn't require admin rights... I'm pretty sure it's only CD writing that does... unless you already used one of these tools and it locked down the CD security settings, in which case the setting is waiting for you to find and switch it back.

Of course she could use ANY CD then, but most CDs just have installers which only run under administrator accounts anyways.

The one I was fiddling with tries to copy a .dll to the Windows directory (for the game Launcher I think), and I think that's what is getting flagged.

Any chance it will work if I copy the file to the windows directory myself?

Depends why it's being copied. If it happens every time it runs, then it's likely it will continue to do so, and then continue to delete it (which I presume it does?) after the program is closed.

I just had a good idea. Why not install VMWare Server (freeware) on the machine and create a computer where she IS an administrator and install all her games to it. Then just teach her that in order to play her games she has to click the shortcut? I'm pretty sure you can create a shortcut that will automatically open a VM and fullscreen it. Maybe it's too complicated, but all of the policies you've already set up seem worlds more difficult to me.

I can't remember if it works on XP or not.. but you might be able to use the runas command. It will run a program or operation as whatever user credentials you enter. I don't know off the top of my head but I would google it for proper syntax and usuage.
