Eve Trinity
2007-12-04, 10:44 PM #1
Hey guys. For those of you who haven't seen it, Eve Online is getting a major graphics overhaul today.
I thought I'd share for those who care to drool in awe:
http://www.eve-online.com/trinity/index.html -- click the video to see it. (highres)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyYZmwhJ5YY -- same video but youtubes with bad resolution

Or for those who haven't joined the game to get a chance to start playing. Try the free 14-day trial.
Although the servers will be down until 6:00PM Pacific tommorrow (wednesday) because they're spending 24 hours to actually patch it the server.

At the very least, the video is cool.

I've already tried the new graphics on the test server and they're amazing. It's essentially a jump from previous gen to next-gen graphics.

I lost my Rokh less than 15 minutes before downtime. :neckbeard:

I'm currently attempting to rebuild it from Lego in Return to Blockland.

Edit: success.

I kind of gave up on EVE after my trial ran out because I'm poor and because... It was going to take like 6 months to get to the stealth ships I wanted.
2007-12-05, 8:08 AM #5
Then you weren't bumming enough cash from other Massassians. I would have bought a nice industrial transport based solely upon "donations" from others if the trial had not been gimped... It was obviously gimped to avoid people NEVER having to pay due to the whole ISK for timecards thing...

Kyle: nice remake of the ship!

Rob: :( You could sell game time cards but damn if they don't take alot of time to make the isk to purchase.

This game looks cool... Is the combat twitch based, a la X-wing alliance or something?

EDIT: Ooooh, I want a Titan.
2007-12-05, 3:16 PM #8
I don't think it is. If it was, I'd hit it like no tomorrow.

That's why I stuck with SWG for so long, at any rate.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

1080P video.. :awesome:

I just might have to try this game out...I've thought about it a few times..
woot!

I'm going to do the 14 day trial.

No. In fact, there is no way to pilot your ship yourself; you need to choose destinations and the autopilot takes you there. To attack ships you select them and then lock target; there is no free aim.

Various other gameplay mechanisms from other mmorpgs, like elemental damage, have been shoehorned in but don't really do anything. The game mechanics are even simpler than WoW, the people who administrate the game are corrupt (for better or worse), the UI is poorly-designed but sadly absolutely essential to success (because the game is about spreadsheets and graphs), doing everything is a time-consuming chore and the only fun you will ever have with the game is if you join one of the major organizations operating out of 0.0 space and rip into people on eve-o.

Avoid.

im getting the trial just for teh GFX.
But i never really liked the whole super-capitist style ganeplay.
I wanna explore the galaxy and shot ****, not muck around with interest on my saving account and supply/demand curves.
2007-12-05, 4:05 PM #13
This game is a very analytical game, I will admit, but that's how i like it.
Analytical + spaceships blowing each other up + cool graphics = win.

There is a VERY strong learning curve, but once you finish the Tutorial training, you'll have most of it down. It takes about 3 weeks to a month to get a decent grasp of what the full game is, but you can still learn alot in the first few days.

Don't pay attention to that, just look at the sell prices and buy prices. Sell= people selling to you. Buy = people buying at the given price.
The graphs just tell you how much prices have changed over time based on the in-game economy. Not strictly relevant to the game.

My advice to new players:
A. run missions to make money and get loot / gain loyalty points
B. convo or evemail me to get some startup cash: Vegera

So, it seems the content upgrade screwed up and deleted XP users' boot.ini. Oops.

So this bug managed not only to delete the boot.ini but also disable Window's file protection as well?
2007-12-06, 9:06 AM #17
Apparently I guess. I think one theory I read was that whoever put together the patch put a slash in a place where there shouldn't be one as EVE has it's own boot.ini so the patcher ended up putting it in the root of C:\ rather than the root of EVE...or something like that.

Doesn't affect anything but XP.

Edit: These have been appearing on the EVE Forums.

Edit2: Also seems the Test Server, which had access before everyone else, knew and told CCP about it, but they went ahead anyway.

One thing I noticed yesterday was that the content upgrade install blew away C:\boot.ini. I'm sure that the intention is to actually delete <EVE Install Folder>\boot.ini. Might need to fix that!

i just came from my FFXI forum, where they were saying even though some of SEs patches have not been good, at least they have never broken a windows install. >.> <.<

My boot.ini got deleted. Thankfully XP keeps a backup so it's pretty easy to fix as long as you know about it before rebooting.

Anyways I don't care because I just got my goonfleet secret santa present (200 mil worth of faction mods), AND a Domination spawn with close to a billion worth of loot (Domi large control tower BPC, and a Domi stasis web). Hooray for fixed loot tables!

Anyways now that I'm feeling the Christmas spirit, I want to pass the generosity onto you! First five people to evemail "Biggest Disaster", starting now, will get 10 million isk each.

Damn you, lol. Goon secret santa, AND a domi spawn...

Was the domi spawn a cosmic anomoly or something in a belt?

domi spawn?
2007-12-06, 11:41 PM #24
Domination spawn, in other words a moderately rare spawn that has the possibility of giving out some seriously expensive and rare loot.

The most expensive item I've found is a halo-omega implant or something, worth 40ish mil, but I haven't sold it yet :(.

I've only got one faction spawn ever, and that was back when I was up in Pure Blind over a year ago. I got a Rattlesnake BPC which was pretty cool, but the money's long gone :(
VTEC just kicked in, yo!
2007-12-07, 11:21 AM #26
I still have to sell my damn loot; gah nobody in the galaxy seems to want Domination control towers anymore. I should build it myself and put it up at a moon somewhere just for kicks (I bet I could run a sweet moon-mining operation from one. Granted I know nothing about moon mining).

My alliance uses them.
You could just build the towers and sell em via contracts at any rate.

Yo, if any of you scrubs decide to start playing hit me up.

I can't give you isk since unlike kyle I am space poor and have no ISK to give out.

I can however give you a ton of advice about this game since I know WAAAY to much about it.

I have gotten 1 faction spawn total, in all of my eve career. It seems to be that some people get all the luck, and I get none. :(

edit: EVE character name is the same name as on here.

I just can't get into it. I love Space-MMO's but this just isn't cutting it for me.

Stinky if you hadn't spent all your money on exotic dancers in Jita you'd have plenty to give out.

$20 to turn the trial into full? that sucks
2007-12-07, 10:57 PM #38
Hrm... I'm experiencing some rather lucrative action from the gurista spawns in a 0.7, and by lucrative I mean 30k ISK bounties for taking out two and finding an Arbalest launcher in the wreckage that had an average market price tag of over 1 million ISK. I wasn't making half this much on the same spot 4 months ago.

What? No... you just start subscribing. $15/month, unless you pay in larger increments.
