I'm on my roommate's computer - 2.8 ghz P4, 512mb RAM, GeForce FX 5200. Can you guys recommend anything good + free? I've already played to death the Doom3 demo, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, X-Com and madness interactive. I was kind of hoping Sim City 2000 was freeware by now, but on the other hand something with shooting would also be satisfying.

I've been playing Rappelz a bit lately. It is an MMO but I've found it decently enjoyable and it is completely free.

Almost as great as Super Metroid.
Lyrics are highly overrated.

Gunz

Its a Third Person Shooter MMO. Everything you wished the Matrix Online could have been.

Check out Legacy Gamers (google it) for a higher rate server then the original Ijji server.

http://www.gunzonline.com/main/

You can see some in game shots there. Lots of fun.

gunz is quite fun, but it gets old
But then, for a free game it's more brilliant

Indeed it is. I'm pretty sure most mods and such work with it too. The only ones that wouldn't are ones that depend on original game resources.

Phosphor is a full FPS (multiplayer, decent graphics, bots) that runs right in your browser. It is run with shockwave.

Yeah that one is pretty damned cool. It's been out for quite a while though, without additional maps and such.
