Free Vista/Office with survey program participation
2007-12-11, 7:51 AM #1
[LEFT]Microsoft is giving away Vista Ultimate, Office Ultimate and a few others if you participate in a three month long program that monitors anonymous usage statistics of your PC. At the end of the three month period, they ship you a copy of your loot.

I signed up because I'm not :tinfoil:

I'm going for it.

I'll have to complete the registration process at home though, cause I can't access my email here at work.

I have it installed in Wine and took the survey. I wonder what type of data they're going to get from me... :P

[Edit] Never mind. It isn't actually running. I'll install it on my work PC, I guess.

Can't hurt to have a second copy of each that I never paid for. Academic Alliance for the win.

If anyone is worried, just put the monitoring program on a spare PC.
2007-12-11, 12:14 PM #13
I wonder how many people will run it on their pirated copies of windows. :v:

After reading that, you can also take surveys rather than run the program. That sounds a lot better to me.

They're more than willing to turn you in for piracy, if you read the privacy statement.

I'll put it on my laptop.

As long as they can tell my copy of XP is Academic Alliance legit and not pirated, I don't care. I'm just looking forward to having two copies of Vista I'm not going to install anytime soon.

Umm, so I installed the program... and now there's nothing. I don't see a task-bar icon, It's not in my Applications list.. I don't know what to look for to see if it's in my Processes list. How do I know it's working?

They'll e-mail you if it isn't. There's a shortcut in the Startup folder of your Start Menu, if clicking it will make you feel better.

Yeah I ran a boost copy of XP Pro for like 2 years before buying it. Some people just don't have the change to throw into it.

This reminds me of the "fill out a survey and MS will send you a free flash drive" thing from about a year ago. It hit digg and all the other usual sites, everyone filled out the survey, and MS replied with something like "due to overwhelming demand we aren't going to give you a flash drive, thanks for filling out the survey though!".
