Usually, I refrain from posting about politics, but I just couldn't hold back. I was just watching TV, when I came upon the Bill Mahr show. It was there I saw both Mahr and Michael Moore get down on their knees and beg Ralph Nader not to run for president. I couldn't believe it. People like Moore say, "As long as people vote and are educated I'm happy." That is how he rationalizes his movies. it isn't propaganda, because he's not biased. he's just educating the country. But that isn't the point. This country has stagnated in it's politcial growth, and has been this way for way too many years now. There is no way you can say what nader is doing is harmful to the nation. We need more people like Nader offering alternatives to the bloated Republican and Democratic parties. I can't stomach the hypocrisy. This is why I hate politics so very much. I can't watch the new anymore, becuase of all the election BS. It's jingoistic, ideological nonsense, and that goes for both parties.

Moore is biased. O'Reilly is biased. Maher is biased. When you get money to have a show or movie to say what you want, there will exist a bias.

They're right. That's the problem with america's system of two parties. The moment someone else joins the race (like nader), all he'll be efficient in doing is taking votes away from whichever party he's the most like. In the case of Nader, he's taking votes from the democrats.

In a sense, I think Moore and Maher's views on the american election are alot like my views on the last canadian election; "I like this guy, but I vote for this other guy I don't like just to keep this guy I really hate from winning".

But for Moore to beg someone not to run is totally hypocritical. He's always claimed that people doing things that are part of the democracy are fine, but that's seems not to be the case when it could keep him from getting his way.

I'm anti-politics. I find it annoying and disgusting. Just like you.

Isn't Nader one of those whackjobs who wants to ban and/or censor video games?
2004-08-01, 6:05 AM #11
Nader? Possibly, though I believe the more vocal supporters of such a ban was Lieberman. Regardless, even if such a measure was passed by Congress, it wouldn't hold up in the Supreme Court.

I wouldn't mind getting some one from the Constitution party elected. That would be quite good.

Down here we've got a preference based system, you can pretty much vote for any political party you want that doesn't have a hope of winning(to make whatever political statement you want), and put your 2nd-onwards preferences to whoever you actually think has a hope of winning.

I used to vote greens even though I knew they weren't going anywhere fast in the next 50 years, and put my next set of preferences to one of the major parties. Essentially you get to vote for whoever you want without the feeling you're throwing your vote away.

Having Nader run in theory is democracy++, but in actuality he has zero chance of winning.

Badnarik isn't a leader. He's just another Libertarian gun nut parroting the same platform as his predecessor, falling into the same traps, insisting the same stale doctrine.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I suppose I am voting for him in hopes that I may one day own a machine gun and not because I tend to lean towards most libertarian beliefs. Wow, I'm glad you opened my eyes.

Voting for a Libertarian candidate because you believe in less government involvement is like voting for Stalin because you want a national health care system.
2004-08-01, 9:11 PM #24
Unless you actually agree with most libertarian ideas. I don't just like the idea of less government control, I like the idea of smaller more localized governing bodies. Maybe I have too much faith in humanity, but I'm pretty sure people can take care of themselves.
