2 Movies, Executive Produced by Peter Jackson, no director named yet

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071218/ap_en_ot/film_the_hobbit

I really hope he somehow directs it, I just don't know if it would be the same. Although with The Hobbit they could be trying to go for a different kind of film.

Sweet, though it seems unnecessary to split it up. Maybe it will keep it from dragging on like King Kong did, though.

Good thing they got all that **** out of the way so that we can get our movie. Or movies. Smaug would approve the business is business sentiment.

EW.com scored an interview with MGM CEO Harry Sloan after this mornings announcements. The biggest highlight is, “Is there any chance that Peter could direct the Hobbit sequel?”, which he answered with, “Well, he could direct either of them.”

There's tons of stuff that happens in that little book. I think if they did one movie, they would probably have to leave out lots of stuff.

Edit: I wonder if they will give Smaug a voice and who it will be.

Well, it's a different kind of novel. Lord of the Rings got away with having one movie per book for two reasons: the first is the fact that a lot of LotR was spent delving into an excessive amount of detail and exposition, and the second is the fact that LotR had a much stronger focus on the POINT A TO POINT B quest aspect while the Hobbit does a lot more meandering and adventuring. Ultimately, and even Bilbo admitted this, the journey to the Lonely Mountain was a lot more important than his original objective.

I think two movies is a great thing. I think two movies might not even be enough, but it's certainly well within reason. It also paves the way to explore a little more about Gandalf's mission in the necromancer's lair and if you think that is a bad thing you should commit suicide immediately.

These shouldn't be directed like a LOTR movie, and they won't be the same kind of story. The fundamentals are so different. This isn't a fight for middle earth. This is One Hobbit's tale.

Yes. This is a great opportunity to expound on some of the more obscure bits of Tolkin lore.

unless they make two 3 hour movies. Noone wants to sit down in a theatre for 6 hours.. 3 hours is already pushing it.

Ah yes. Gandalf did go to Sauron's lair in Dol Guldur in the southern end of Mirkwood while Bilbo was floating in a barrel. It was during then that Gandalf and...uhh...**** well someone else drove Sauron back to Mordor .

And the broad who played Galadriel, and Christopher Lee if they delve into the Necromancer plot line, which I hope they do.

That wasn't much of a plot line in the book. It only received a few mentions and that was all.

I bet they focus the story around the characterization of Bilbo, not creating a "LotR Prequel".

I just would love to see that as a movie. XD

Getting Christopher Lee would basically be a non-challenge. Unless he's still upset about the Scouring.

He never looked like a man without pride to me. But I suppose he would be disappointed if somebody else was cast as Saruman in the movie. But then again, seeing how even Jackson and New Line didn't come to hate each other after all the profit mess left behind by the LOTR movies, I doubt they would have any reason not to use Lee.

I think they should make 3 Lord of the Rings movies, based on the 3 books, after this Hobbit movie comes out.

And after those they should make a movie based on the Hobbit book? And once it's finished, they could make 3 Lord of the Rings movies. And then a Hobbit movie. And then 3 LotR movies. And then a Hobbit Movie. Maybe then they could make a few Lord of the Rings movies, and after those it would be the time to make a Hobbit movie.

A nice scheme!
