I liked it. The following is constructive criticism for the whole crew:
Editing: Some of the editing seemed poorly timed. A particular example is the interruption of the wife. Other periods of time seem to drag because of the inconsistent or lack of science to the cuts. I think a majority of this can be played up to bad timing on the actors' parts, anyway. (Not that I'm criticizing their acting. This isn't an acting class.) I thought the choice of effects for the electrocution was poor.
Camera: A majority of the camera work is actually really really well done. I'm sure you didn't have a steady cam, and in some cases the lack of this equipment would have suggested a tripod instead of the handcam, as the jerkiness was distracting. The variety and positioning of the angles were superb, and very uncharacteristic of an intro class, let alone a green.
Lighting: I'm not a fan of fake lighting, but some points of the short were incomprehensible, or so useless that they added nothing to the piece.
Audio: My biggest issue was in the audio department, and the lack of balancing. Half of the tension and acting could have been solved with consistent and balanced audio. These are NOT hardware problems. Proper handling of audio can make or break a piece, and I think in the case of this production, it may have broke it.
Set: Of course you didn't have a lot of options as far as a set goes, but what you did use and how you used it was very wonderfully done.
Overall, it's a lot higher caliber than what I expected, but of course there are some glaring flaws that can be handled very easily, and most of it can be done in post. I'd love to see what you could do in a year from now with the same raw footage.
