I just got through reading 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. I only had one question for the author: What the hell happened to metal detectors? Seriously couldn't they have invented some sort of device that could detect the various electronic implants in the androids or maybe an x-ray device?

The book was written in 1968. Perhaps that wasn't a thought at the time. Also, the whole idea behind the newest, most advanced replicants is that they are indistinguishable from humans, so that would mean they'd be read as a human being by what ever form of sensors they had.

..... Just.... just don't say another word.... you've just proven your idiocy and complete inability to use Google in a sad attempt to look intelligent again.

Philip K. Dick wrote that book. Not freaking Isaac Asimov. You probably don't even know who Isaac Asimov IS.

I am thinking he is a replicant created by a highly advanced race of internet trolls, just to piss you guys off

Isaac Asimov wrote a ton of books. I'm always surprised to see his name pop-up when I'm looking at stuff far removed from sci-fi, like Shakespeare and such.

But this thread isn't about him.

My only Phillip K Dick exposure was the Minority Report film, which I heartily enjoyed.

It was good in it's own right, although somewhat removed from the book.

I think A Scanner Darkly was the same way. Great film, but different from the book.

If you haven't seen BladeRunner though, you absolutely MUST. There's seriously no excuse for not ever having seen the awesome that is BladeRunner.

DADES is probably his best work, and Ridley Scott converted it into film perfectly. I love Phillip K. Dick, everything he writes is amazing.

I think A Scanner Darkly is my favorite of his, though.

There's an anime series along the same vein (Blade Runner, DADES, A Scanner Darkly) called Ergo Proxy that I would reccommend watching if you're into this sort of thing. I'm about 90% through it. Good stuff.

I'll look into it. If it runs heavily along the same lines, that'll be an instant win for me.

Funny, I just rented Blade Runner final cut version for the first time last week.
I'd never seen it all the way through before that. And yes, I loved it.
I also loved the 3 & 1/5 hour documentary thing.

I didn't know he did that. What is the name of the book? Or is it Minority report aswell?

And if memory serves, it's a short story in a book along with a few others.

How dare you recommend Ergo Proxy before me?!

I highly, highly recommend Ergo Proxy. It's got a couple weird episodes in there (wtf quiz show) but the rest of it is SOLID. Great atmosphere, plot, art direction, hell even the dubbing was awesome. It's one of the few animes I actually own on DVD.
