Five Player Co-op?
2007-12-24, 4:53 PM #1
I'm hosting a semi-annual LAN party this week with some old friends from high school. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have as to games (or mods) that could support co-operative gameplay among five players. Most co-op games I've found support only four. Also, don't be afriad to stretch back into the deep, dark depths of time.

So far, I'm leaning in the following directions:

Neverwinter Nights
I just "obtained" Joint Operations and will have to look into this

I don't like Serious Sam. It always seemed like it was just a mindless "shoot waves of enemies" game... :colbert:

There's a Doom 3 co-op mod out there. Also, Diablo II is a oldie but goldie. My friends are probably going to play that a bit this new years.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six 3, and any of the associated expansions have excellent multiplayer and co-op. Unfortunately it requires that your friends be serious about playing it and not goof off.

Any Serious Sam co-op is wonderfully fun and easy to pick up.

Could try the 'Future vs Fantasy' mod for quake co-op. Has new classes, slightly harder monsters.

Quake 2 with Eraserbots and CTF is good fun.

There's also Diablo, but you'll likely just end up all scattered all over the map. And Operation Flashpoint, but OFP can be an almighty pain to setup and find a decent map for co-op.

Battlefield 1942 with the "Battlegroup 42" mod, adds a lot of new maps, new tanks, weapons.

X-Wing vs TIE Fighter (Balance of Power addon has co-op campaign) , but you'd need 5 joysticks...

Yeah that one, awesome co-op pretty much no matter which game in the series you pick up.

I was going to suggest Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe, but then I realized that it was 4-player. :saddowns:

Grand Theft Auto 1. Deathmatch Mode. Awesome fun.

You'll probably need win98 comps for that though. Maybe it runs on Win2000, but in any case not on XP. Maybe it'll run with Dosbox? I haven't tried.

I think Dungeon Siege 1+2 have co-op support for that many players, and I found them pretty fun to play. Don't quote me on that, though, as I never tried to play multiplayer on them.

Yep Dungeon Siege 1 makes for a good co-op, especially trading items and such. The MP world is so much bigger, and it is easy to setup multiple times with one cd and be able to play together.

My most recommended = QUAKE1, the expansions and custom levels that have way more enemies. JK coop is fun but there aren't enough levels and the enemies are weird, lucasarts didn't intend for it.
