Ubuntu doesn't work very well on my PC, guys. I don't know why it won't work but it's only Linux so I don't really care to find out why and hack the X-Fi driver to work with my Auzen card.

discuss?

I don't know why you're telling me that before you even asked if I run x86_64 ubuntu which I do

Who cares! Your post, like mine, was obviously satirical.

If you plan to run Linux, the best thing you can do is purchase a computer or parts with Linux in mind, that way you don't have to figure out how to make your existing stuff work with linux - buy linux-compatible stuff from the beginning and you won't have any problems.

Jon`C: You're going to have to write several shell scripts in Perl to tie the device to /etc/audio_tab to /dev/audio6. You cannot use audio1 - 5 because those are reserved notes for the PC speaker (E-G-a-c-e).

Once you do that, you have to write your own small device driver to initalize the audio device and then specify your own notes. Preferably tune your audio driver in fourths with a C-major middle.

is bootsplash broken in ubuntu64 right now or something????!
2007-12-25, 12:54 PM #11
Yeah you have to download the source code for the patch. There are no binaries present because we hate binaries. Compiling is easy just do

gcc -O2 - Wall -g -a -y -D_PATCH_ -DJ_TUX42 -fno-rtti -fno-**** -o patch file1.c file2.c file3.c ... file13.c (ellipses mean you have to count from 3 to 13, if you uberleet you can write a bash script to automate the compile)

Yes. Currently it is only capable of displaying an image of a nude David Hasselhoff splayed out on a pool table.
After all, thats what the developer wanted to see.

The following should do it (as root, naturally. You should always run as root, don't ya know?);
Code:
dd if=/dev/urandom of=new_kernel.deb count=10000
dpkg -i new_kernel.deb

If it *****es about the file not being a debian format archive, or some such, just repeat the first command. Keep repeating until it doesn't complain.

ubuntu doesnt have a root account will sudo -s work
2007-12-25, 1:58 PM #16
thats not good. you messed up your installation every *nix has a root account. sudo -s will only grant you 3/4 root. but the task you need requires the remaining 1/4 root access.

You need to start over and give up on Ubuntu. The only real Linux out there is Slackware. Seriously, who needs all that repository bs? Only use Fluxbox, because Gnome and KDE use WAY too many resources. In fact, don't even install X. It's all just a bunch of bloated eye-candy that these Ubuntu hippies like to jump all over.

I've noticed that ubuntu seems to eat more resources than XP.. so what's the point to use it?

I have installed Ubuntu on alot of low end systems, mostly Pentium3's and I find the hardware requirements and performance pretty much identical to XP's. I guess XP will actaully run with less ram- but I wouldnt say it runs well until you approach the amount Ubuntu requires anyway. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a desktop experience.
