Well, my stepson bought Gears of War last night and here's another game on xbox 360 I'm going to enjoy. The graphics are amazing, the cover system is really, really cool, and the story is great so far (only played a level or two). It's another coop game, which is one reason he bought it. We're almost done with Halo3 I believe, then we will get into this one. Are there any other cool coop FPS games for the 360? It looks like CoD4 is not coop (damn). We will probably get Lego Star Wars for this, too, but he's really getting into FPS games so I don't want to discourage that trend, it's too hard to find people to play with!

Speaking of xbox 360, I wanted to download some demos last night so we ran the network cable to the back of the xbox. After about a dozen error messages about xbox live not being available, we were able to sign up, but I can't d/l anything, more error messages. Is this common or a freak incident? All the network tests in the network connection settings passed (and quickly, we have decent broadband at home).

Also, do you guys really put in all your personal information when signing up for xbox live? I mean, to play games online, now you need to put in your name, address, phone number, and birthdate. Is this for real?

Everyone has been having network issues. The tech support told me they were doing a bunch of upgrades to the system (which I found hard to believe on new years day)

Yes. It's ridiculous, but if helps in at least some small part to keep your account from being stolen. Of course, that doesn't stop everyone, because it's still quite possible to sweet talk Support into giving you an account that's not yours if you have enough information. It happened just recently.

Not being able to download stuff sounds like Live being screwed up still. It's had problems since just after Christmas. The service has been spotty, you can sign in, but nothing will work. They've been working on it "around the clock" supposedly, and it should be near fixed. Maybe you just got unlucky and either hit, or are in, one of the last few problem areas.

Bioshock is great Brian if you haven't already played it, CoD4 is excellent for MP (me and a mate have been split screening it up on Hardcore mode which is INCREDIBLE fun), and I now have to declare my love (thanks Detty) for STREETS OF RAGE II. A-MAZE-ING.

It was on the 360. I played the demo. The controls felt retardedly loose and sloppy. Not to mention that the AI was horrible ("Let's just stand here in the doorway and be peppered with bullets!"), the level design was meh, and the HUD seemed almost counter intuitive.

That's what I remember at least.... I don't even think I finished the demo, I deleted it. But it sounds about right for a series that was good and then ruined by EA.

Yes, Live has been flaky since the 21st. It isn't just you. And yes, it's very, very annoying.

This is really the first time this has happened with Live, it's possible MS will give everyone a free month or something of Gold service to make up for it. Time will tell.

There are a lot of weird games on xbox live marketplace. I played a demo of one where I am a spinning lizard that barfs colored balls and the object is to barf the colored ball onto other balls of the same color which are slowly creaping towards me.

some pro gamer skyluss got his account hacked via social engineering by some **** named infamous... so it started this huge uproar since skluss was famous for his sniper rifle suicide on youtube and bungie gave him an elite employee only armor for use on xbl. this made some kid steal his account and yeah uproar. supposedly xbl is going to compensate all the gold members who have been having issues.

By someone who apparently doesn't even use it. My girlfriend recently bought a 360 and registered her tag. It's absurd, positively ABSURD how many registered tags are apparently going completely unused. Yeah, maybe he's got that tag on an original Xbox, I still don't think that'd explain the total lack of information there though.

Personally, I want to know why they don't just unlink gamertags that haven't been used in over six months and throw them back to the masses to pick up. I swear some of the ones I was looking at recently hadn't been used in at least that long, if EVER.

I wanted Phoenix, but it was taken (I figured that was a longshot to begin with, and ironically it wasn't until recently that I discovered it was in use by someone on the 360 launch team). I didn't want numbers in my name, because I think that's lame. In some games I'd maintain two profiles, one was Reaver, and the other was Phoenix. That really started with Halo 2, Phoenix was my Spartan, Reaver was my Elite. I liked both names, so I mashed them together for my gamertag. It had the added bonus of sounding like the dead actor (he was good... why'd he have to off himself?).
