Guitar Hero question
2008-01-12, 10:26 AM #1
I know a lot of you have Guitar Hero, so this seems like a good enough place to ask. I'm going to get Guitar Hero 2 and 3. Should I get the GH2 guitar, or the GH3 guitar? The fact that the GH3 guitar is wireless is nice, but I've also heard that it's had some technical problems. Any first hand experience?

[ninjaedit]It's for Xbox 360, if that matters.

You'll want both anyways. 2 Player Guitar hero is wicked.

I've used both wireless and wired and didn't really notice a difference.

Yeah, I know 2 player is a lot of fun, that's the main reason I'm getting it. All my friends have it though, so I'm not going to bother getting two guitars.

It looks like the GH2 game only is $50, whereas GH3 is $65. The game + guitar is $100 for GH2, and $100 for GH3. So it looks like the cheapest option is actually to get GH3 with guitar and get GH2 by itself. Paying $15 more for the privilege of being wired is lame as hell, so I'll probably go with the wireless guitar unless there's some huge reason why I shouldn't.

I don't know about the GH2 on the 360, but my old PS2 guitars are a lot easier to play than my GH3 360 guitar.

The buttons are much stiffer (making it stupidly tiring) and I have occasional problems with the buttons not registering at all. You also don't seem to be able to plug the GH3 guitar in for charging like you can with the gamepads which means you have to replace/recharge the batteries yourself.

....where do you live? Those prices don't look correct. I usually see them for $10-30 cheaper at a Best Buy.

The wireless Guitar Hero 3 controller has a small design flaw which can make it a pain to play. The detachable neck is connected by plates which are supposed to press against each other; however, if it is loose in the slightest you'll have problems with the fret buttons registering, as Detty said. I used this idea to fix mine, and it's worked perfectly thus far. It pisses me off that I had to do it in the first place, but it does work well.

When it's working fine, it's my favorite guitar controller I've used thus far. Fret buttons are easier to press, whammy is loose but still really springy, and it seems to have better response than some of the other's I've used. When it works the way it's supposed to I love it.

Battery life really isn't that bad; I can play for a little under a week on a standard pair of AA's. There is a rechargeable battery pack available from Red Octane, but don't really know much about it asides from the fact that it exists.

I see as guitar her, as an insault to all the people around the world who play guitar, haveing said that, what system are you playing this on???? I like the Guitar hero 1 the best for the PS2 but number 2 is better for 360, more songs thatn the ps2 one and one of them is IRON MAIDEN THE TROOPER!!!!!

Just buy the gh3 one, its better, if there are defects you have 30 days and youll be fine......

I used to hate the Xplorer, but now I really do love it. Something just feels different about the buttons.

However, I still use the Les Paul primarily, and would recommend it still. It's heftier and feels less plasticy (plus looks better). I haven't had any problems with it at all, although the neck does seem loose, but apparently it has been fixed. Haven't had any problems with wireless lag on 360 (i know though the ps3 one definitley does, at least from my experience).

Frankly, I'd get both :/. Go pick up a used Xplorer from Gamespot and get the 3 dollar one year warranty, get a pretty good price.

Why? No offense mate but if it gave you 144 buttons and it wanted Paul Gilbert tunes note for note I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be that fun.

:P
nope.

i personally prefer the xplorer... of course i bought gh2 for $45 on sale back before christmas... then bought GH3 without the guitar later... but having played GH3 with the wireless les paul... i prefer the xplorer controller (plus i'm kinda used ot the body style)

Honestly, though it feels more solid and looks cooler, I like the mechanics of the GH controller better.

That Fender is a piece of ****, literally. It feels more cheap and plasticy than the Xplorer. When I was playing Rock Band with 4/5 people who have never played GH/RB before, they all preferred the Les Paul.

It's not that bad, and the solo buttons does make SOME parts easier in RB solos (Ride the Lightning on Expert anyone?). The Les Paul though, it's primo.

Pretty sure the Fender doesn't work with GH anyway, so that's pretty much out.

Looks like I'll probably go with the Les Paul. Thanks all.
