PseudoMario for PC?

The latest Mario game looks awesome, but I'm not willing to shell out for a Wii yet.

Are there any Mario or Mario-style games for the PC? Even like the old ones?

To be honest, I'd recommend getting an emulator. :/

Well, there are many wonderful freeware platformers for the PC. Nothing like Mario that I know of, but plenty of sidescrolling action. Knytt Stories is wonderful, so is Cave Story.

It doesn't take long to find one.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about. I wasn't meaning Mario roms, just something similar to Mario. As successful as the Mario franchise is, you'd think there'd be a million copycats. Instead of an Italian plumber, maybe a Scottish chimneysweep or something.

Anyway, I was looking for something that my 5 yr old can watch/play, and that wouldn't bore me to death.

Jazz Jackrabbit is like Sonic in many ways, you should try that out.

Also, Commander Keen is the definitive classic PC platformer.

Banjo-kazooie (not sure I spelled that right) for the N64 was a completely copycat of Mario 64 so there was at least one mario copycat.

Aren't most platformers pretty much the same formula though? Beat level, get some sort of special item (a star or whatever), collect enough of said special item, move onto next set of stages.

If any of you are in the market for a domain name, that one is apparently open.

Honestly, I suggest just getting a Wii if you have the money to spare because Super Mario Galaxy is probably the best game for the Wii and certainly one of the best Mario games ever.

I know, but I was saying "well you ought to just get a Wii anyway" because it's quite worth it. Instead of finding an alternative, he should find a way to get one of the best platformers in years.

What about our very own Elmo and his game Knubblz?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
