If that's real... I hope anyone who buys it gets cancer... seriously. Apple's only ability to stay in business is to make useless 'trendy' items that fools buy and then all the fool followers want one too. UGH.... :suicide:

I think they should have the MBP in one of those when it ships to you. >_>

All the Apple fanboys would be, "just like the commercial!@" and then nerdgasm.

the thing is, if it were real, there would be apple idiots that would buy it. no doubt.
2008-01-16, 10:48 AM #10
No they wouldn't.

Let's settle a few simple matters:
- the Air is of questionable value for most people, but I don't doubt that there are enough people who would find it useful to justify Apple developing it. I'm also not talking about the people who apparantly exist who just buy everything Apple produces, I'm talking about real people with real requirements. For the record, no I don't want one.
- Apple computers are good, no they're not perfect and bug free but they are a nice cohesive package. Design does matter.
- I want a Mac for coding on. I hate Linux UIs and Windows is just inadequate for the kind of stuff I want to be doing. Therefore in comparison to Windows PCs, Macs do have genuine utility and vise-versa. Macs do a lot more than just look pretty.

Actually Detty, I bet there would be, especially if it was a bit more "reasonable" in price, like $50 instead of $300.
2008-01-16, 12:09 PM #12
Maybe if it was, like, $2.

Hahah, the title of this thread is really ironic now considering he couldn't tell it was a joke.

And you kidding me, Apple is farthest away from being idiots. They are smart as hell and great business people. They know EXACTLY who would buy their stuff. Even if they DID make this manila case, I would stand up and give them an applause at basically knowing that they can make money off people who would buy it at an outrageous price. Apple aren't idiots, the people who would buy stuff like the manila folder case are the idiots.

Reasonable was in quotes for a reason. $50 would be "reasonable" for a typical Apple product :p

Actually, thats who i was referring to... the idiots that buy it. Any company that makes money off idiots is great in my opinion... id do the same thing. I just hate HEARING about it all the time. Out of my dozens of friends/family members that have Ipods, only ONE likes it. Never met anyone who had a mac and ONLY a mac... Sure macs are useful for something otherwise they wouldnt exist... but aparently PCs still do more of what day to day people want to do. Though apple is gaining on that market, they are doing it at a rediculous price margin over what a decent PC costs.

Why would you need the SuperDrive for anything besides the MBA? Dell's external CD-Drive for its smaller laptops only works on those laptops as well.

Yeah, the whole stink about the Macbook Air is that pretty much every other ultraportable still does have an optical drive....so most likely you won't be needing one.

Remember, the original iMac was basically the first computer to drop the floppy drive. At the tmie everyone was all "but I need floppy discs!!!!11one", it turned out that most people didn't, that's not so say there weren't people who did need a floppy drive - just that there were enough who didn't to justify not including one.

People still need floppy drives... I was about to drop the one in my machine but my board suggests having one for a BIOS boot disk when and if I ever mess it up overclocking... not really sure how that works. I'm not an overclocker.

I don't have a floppy drive in my computer, and haven't for years. Most all new mobos support USB, even for BIOS updates.
2008-01-18, 11:34 AM #24
Why the hell would you use a monumentally unreliable storage system like floppy discs as your safety net for when your system dies? I'd argue that using a floppy disc drive is just setting yourself up for a world of hurt.

I've never had a failed floppy, but rarely use them anyways... I don't PLAN on making a backup disk like it recommends because i dont plan on overclocking.

Some one's partying like it's 1999!

I haven't had a floppy drive in any computer that I've owned since I was in high school.

When you can download the entire contents of a storage medium in a few seconds, you don't need it anymore.

The trouble is with installing software, for the most part. Yes, you can buy an external drive, but why? So your notebook can be 0.15 inches thinner?
