New computer for a friend.

So a friend of mine from work has a really old computer, it freezes often and is choppy in games. Basically she wants a new one.

She asked me to give her a price range for a new one. I told her $400 for one that could do what she needs. She just wants something simple (enough to run WoW decently) and something that won't freeze up all the time. I told her I'd look at some parts and give her a price.

This is what I have so far: (feel free to give advice or change anything, Remember she doesn't need anything top of the line. The most demanding thing she does on a computer is play WoW, but I thought I'd throw in some extra power)

I started with a barebones system from newegg and went from there.
ASUS V3-P5945GC Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Pentium 4 Intel 945GC 2 x 240Pin Intel GMA 950 Barebone
Intel Celeron D 356 Cedar Mill 3.33GHz 512KB L2 Cache LGA 775 Single-Core Processor
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor (Possible Changing to E4300 pending the price)
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Sony NEC Optiarc Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model DDU1615/B2s
Price $305.95
Price $401.95

That on it's own should play WoW very, very well(as well as anything else she needs it for and then some), but does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make it cheaper? (I could also use a suggestion on a video card, I was thinking this one, but the onboard card is good enough to do what she needs)

For God's sake, save her some agony later and get her a decent CPU. Telling someone to buy a Celeron should be illegal.

There's a multitude of Core 2 Duo chips that are rather cheap, and are massively better than the one you've got there.

Ok, this is the cheapest C2D processor I could find on newegg.

That one would make the price $378.95

Better?

I'd say get 1gb of DDR2 800 instead of 2gb of ddr2 4200, also 250gb harddrives aren't that much more expensive.

For video card try to convince her to drop the bones for an x1950pro if you can. Good card for basic users.

The E4300 is currently out of stock, I suspect when more come in the price will be adjusted, since right now it's about the same as the E4500.

Also if she is on that old of a machine, she is likely going to need a new PSU for the CPU 4pin 12V and the 24pin motherboard connection.

I 'updated' my machine... new PSU, new mobo, new processor, new ram, and new vid card. ~$700. Granted I went pretty far with it. (nice C2D, 2gb DDR2 800, 8800GT....ect ect)

Why the downgrade from 2GB of DDR2 533 to the 1 GB of DDR2 800? The motherboard in that barebones system only supports DDR2 533/667 (Which is why I went with what I originally had). So even if she got the DDR2 800 wouldn't run any faster than DDR2 667, and the cheapest 1 GB DDR2 800 I could find was only about $14 cheaper than the 2 gigs of DDR2 667.

I'll wait and see what the E4300 might make the price.

I can vouch for an X1950 pro.
With the Omega drivers it can run UT3 maxed at 50 FPS.
