A website that I have produced for a client is getting recognition on a local TV News station tomorrow morning. Fox28.

Here's the site:
http://www.kidsmealdeals.com/

It uses a CMS called Joomla, with a modified template, Sobi2 component which has been heavily modified. And I wrote the kids meal deals search, which is the main function of the site.

That's really cool man. I like the site and I like the concept of it as well. Did you come up with the idea, or did you just create the website and have your client tell you what to do?

Also, I have a suggestion. I tried doing a search, and I entered my zip code, as well as typing in my city and selecting my state, and it did not attempt to do the search as I had filled both fields out. Just make it so if one or the other, or both are filled out, it still completes the search based on the zip code or something. That was my only problem, well I guess along with it not finding any happy meals in my area. :P

Hm, I'm not sure if I follow you. If you search via zipcode it will not look up your city state, but if you don't search by zip code you have to type in city & state. This are directions from the client. Which yes I had nothing to do with the idea behind it just making it work ;) but yeah I think it's a good idea too

Sorry, I'm not sure that I said what I wanted to say very clearly. I meant that you should enable it so it will make a search if the user fills out the zip code *and* their city, state. I filled out both to begin with, and it told me it couldn't complete my search because I filled them both out. Just make it default to the zip code if both entries are completed.

I guess I'm out of luck here on the other side of the world. Didn't notify them, though.

Good work and congrats.

thanks guys

dark__knight, well when you search from zip code it searches all restuarants within a certain radius. It does search when you enter all these fields. It simply ignores your city/state search

Detty, yeah Joomla :P kinda makes my life more difficult

tell me your zipcode so I can add it to the database, lassev

Sounds like a good idea for a site, and it looks nice, but some of it doesn't seem to be rendering properly. This is using Firefox 2.0; it looks the same in Epiphany, but in Midori (webkit-gtk) the partial text is not visible at all.

It's a text size issue, the design breaks if you increase the browser text size.

Sorry, I was just joking. As I don't live in the USA, I tested what manner of a result my Finnish zipcode might produce, but it didn't give out anything. It also seems, checking from other sources, that the particular series of numbers doesn't happen to be even in use in the US ("Only about 43,000 of the 100,000 possible 5-digit ZIP codes are currently in use.").

You know what else would get you attention? Helping with the new Massassi site. :colbert:

The site looks really good, nice job. I'm not aware of what limitations Joomla imposes, but the site doesn't validate though. Might want to look into that.
