How do I add a Mod?
2008-01-21, 2:36 PM #1
I've added Mods to games in the past, but I'm having trouble here. Which folder do I put the .gob file into? And then how do I play the mod after I added it?

And also thanks for the compliment on my user-name.

Ah, I'm sorry for being a noob but I couldn't find how to do it on JK Hub.
I just want to know which file to put it into.

Download the program I linked you to. It's absolutely straightforward to use.

It's straightforward if your mind is a convoluted mess like MZZT's is. Otherwise it takes practice cause the interface blows

Except JK predates the term padawan.

JK didn't come with built-in mod support. If you don't want to use a third party mod launcher, do the following:

1. Extract the contents of the zip into a folder inside the JK installation folder, for example 'padawannabe'
2. Start -> Run -> [JK Installation path]\jk.exe -path padawannabe

I tried to reinstall JK recently, but it wouldn't do hardware rendering on my 8800GT.

You could also use Patch Commander which is pretty easy to use but I don't know if there are any working links. I do have it though.

Odd, it runs fun on my 8800 GTS. Granted, they are different cards, but you'd think if it worked on the GTS, it'd work on the GT.

......right? :/

Indeed, the JK Patch Commander downloads seem to be corrupt in most places, or have trouble installing (probably due to missing reg settings from installing JK manually).

As a suggestion, try using the latest JKLauncher, which [also] works with manually installed JK and MotS. Although still in alpha stages, hosting and joining with mods works (as of yesterday's testing with many people).

Try turning the aiming cursor off (of all things), it worked for me with an 8600GT.

That is what the latest unofficial patch fixes, as explained in various other threads. In other words, apply the patch, and everything works, even the crosshairs.

I personally don't really care to use programs that handle mods for JK. I usually just create a separate folder for a mod and create a .bat or a shortcut with a modified command line to launch the mod but that's just me :P
