Just bought a new handgun
2008-01-24, 9:04 AM #1
Behold, my first handgun purchase ever. The Smith & Wesson M&P40. Capable of holding 16 rounds of 40 caliber goodness, and putting large holes in anything I happen to decide is in need of them. Unfortunately, I still haven't shot it. Circumstances have conspired against me in the days (last Friday to be precise) since I purchased it. Hopefully I'll be able to get down to the range today and have some fun putting holes in things.

And since I didn't post it when I bought it last August, I'll also provide all of you with a lovely picture of my shotgun as well. Its a Remington 870 Express Magnum 12 gauge. Many clay pigeons and other assorted items have already fallen victim to it. So, what arms does the rest of Massassi currently have?

Why do we have a new gun thread every other week?
nope.

I have a slingshot and a bow&arrow. I'm kickin' it old school, yo.

Other than that, I have assorted railgun components waiting to be put together.

Because people keep buying new guns.

I've been thinking about buying a shotgun and trying my hand at gamebird hunting (because I want to eat them, not for the sheer joy of killing one of God's creatures), but I figure it's not something I can figure out myself.

Those are stupid, stupid guns.

They're not stupid guns, Obi, they're just overly fetishized by Dudes Who Play Videogames.

They can still be cool despite being stupid though.

All right, you primitive screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my BOOMSTICK! It's a 12 gauge double barreled Remington, S-mart's top of the line... you can find this in the sporting goods department... that's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan, retails for about $109.95, got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. Shop smart, shop...S-mart. YOU GOT THAT?!

Is the magnum the one that accepts up to 3 1/2" shells? If so I hate you and I want that. I'll trade you mine for it.

The gun rags speak highly of the M&P40 but I tend not to trust them.

We must have a range report!

EDIT:I have a FEG PA-63 (9x18). I am looking at buying an AR-15 in the next few days though.

As for my professional life, I am a team leader now so they gave me a grenade launcher. Win.

Nope, thats the Super Magnum. And it will only accept 3 1/2" shells. The magnum accepts 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

Spook. I'll get a range report as soon as I can, if only there wasn't half a foot of snow on the ground here on top of the stupid gun range near my house being completely booked.

The first handgun I bought was a SigPro SP2009 (made by JP Sauer in Switzerland) 9mil, though I also have the barrels for .357 Sig and .40SW. It's still my favorite. Wide "sticky" grips for my big mitts, the rounds are cheap and plentiful (overpentration be damned), nitesites, tac rail, and it's smooth. So smooth, oh so smooth...

I also filed the DROS for a Browning Buckmark yesterday. I'll let you know how it is when I get it. I don't like the Mk IIIs, and I 've heard many good things about the Buckmark.

I don't know a lot about handguns, but I really like the feel of the springfield xd. My friend just used his uncle's to take a concealed carry class and beforehand we all went out and shot some...It was very nice. I liked it better than the SW40VE my other friend has.

Stop being such a hippy.

Guns are not the root of all evil, redneckness, crime, or violence.

They're tools of awesome. It's no different than owning more pnuematic tools than I will ever need, but I don't see you *****ing about my love of Snap-On air impact hammers. Granted I've never made a thread about them here, but I bet if I did you wouldn't care.
2008-01-24, 4:08 PM #23
We should start stabbing people to death with plastic forks and see if they still object to guns.
2008-01-24, 4:14 PM #24
If you tried to stab me i would totally shoot you.

I'm not objecting to guns here, I'm just pointing out that we actually have a gun thread more often that a new desktop one, camhoez etc.

Thats because its much more exciting when someone buys a new gun then when someone changes the background on their desktop.

I am prone to strong tempers so me owning a gun would guarantee a 65% chance of being incarcerated for life.

Also important to note, the current Camhoez thread has been going on for how long? Two years? :p

Update: Finally got to go to the range tonight and give it a try. I only had 50 rounds on hand, so I was there for like 15 minutes and then left, but it was a lot of fun. Gun functioned really well. No misfires or failures to feed or eject properly. Heres one of the targets I shot tonight. It was at 25 feet, so considering I've shot handguns very little and this being a new handgun, its not too bad. The gun is accurate and reliable so far.

If you can't hit the black on the paper how are you going to know what to shoot at in real life?
:master::master::master:
2008-01-24, 7:15 PM #36
That mostly has to do with it being a new gun. With any new gun you have to adjust the sights and learn how it aims for you. Even so, if it had been a person instead of a target and the bullseye was the center of them, they would still be very dead. :P

In this state (California), I wouldn't put it past any judge to throw the book at me. This is of course the assailed dies.

if aiming center mass those 2 flyers would be BOOM HEADSHOTs

and i need to find a good option for a carry pistol i can afford...

all i have right now is my CZ-52 and my 2 Nagants... neither of them are super easy to conceal and open carry while not illegal in my state has the problem of drawing way too much attention
eat right, exercise, die anyway
