Merging multiple game/disks onto one.
2008-01-25, 7:27 PM #1
Earlier today i decided to test a theory, i tried to put both on my XWA disks onto one DVD.

It worked! Hurrah! it installs slightly faster and the cutscenes are less laggy.

Now, How would i go about doing this with games like Jedi Knight that have the game and music stored in different tracks? or how about trying to put multiple games onto one disk?

Alcohol 52% & ISOs FTW.
woot!

But ISO files are only one track, and thus no music (which in that case is spread over several) so that wouldn't really work for games like JK would it?

Images the entire CD...solves the problem.

Even if we explained how I doubt you'd be able to combine multiple downloaded images into a single image.

Rip into ISOs or other forms and burn the ISOs as actual files onto the disc. Then use Daemon Tools to mount the ISOs as needed.

At least, that's what I'd do. It's a more universal solution than yours, which isn't guaranteed to work for mostl cases.*

Of course there's always problems with CD copy protection but then again normally ripping and burning to CD-Rs wouldn't work with those either.

* - Basically, there are many installers. I doubt the majority of them are prepared for any file layouts different from what the factory ships the discs with. Trying to merge multiple discs will most likely confuse most installers which will think you have disc X inserted and will keep asking for disc Y even though your disc contains both X and Y contents. Some installers use label names to distinguish the different CDs... you can't have more than one label name. Some installers use a specific filename in a specific location on all CDs, the contents of which distinguish the different discs. You can't merge these either. Only installers which make no effort to verify the correct disc is inserted and just try to copy the files they are looking for will work.

I see.
What would you suggest as a really good CD ripping software?
(Also- I went back in and was able to get XWA to install itself along with my pilot files and the XWA upgrade patch, All the installer really does is put whatevers on the disk onto the HD and then run some registry stuff, Neat.)

Rob, Baco, lay off. This thread is perfectly legitimate and you have no reason to be dicks.

Couldn't you just copy the game files onto the DVD and also stick in a batch script that would copy them into the correct place on your hard drive and make the requisite registry changes? I'm sure that wouldn't work if the game had any copy protection worth mentioning, but the example he used was JK.
