Do you like all your music?
2008-01-26, 1:53 PM #1
I realized today that I don't even like listening to probably half of the music on my iPod. A lot of it I've had for 8 or 9 years and just have heard too much, I'm sick of it. When it put it on shuffle I end up skipping several songs before finding one I want to listen to.

Anyone else experience this?

I have to be in a specific mood for 75% of the things on my iPod so at any point in time I dislike most of my music.

I certainly do not experience this on the not-forum of discussion and showcase.

And a lot of times some songs/artists just annoy me for certain periods. Or not. Hell, I don't even listen to music.

Some years ago I bought System of a Down's first album (which I heard was the best) and thought it was garbage. I still think that but I haven't gotten rid of the CD.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I guess I'll have to start using these "playlist" things to sort music by mood. I've always just kept everything in one big playlist and used shuffle.

I buy all my music, and I wouldn't buy an album if I didn't like it.

Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Serj Tankian, Foo Fighters, and Bob Dylan.

I have lots of music on my desktop that I barely ever listen to. My laptop has music that I want on it, and I use my laptop with my ipod so I don't eally have much on there that I don't listen too. I generally only skip songs if I've heard the song recently on my computer or the radio.

Tastes change over time, I have a few things I wasn't overly keen on half of at the time, and now I think the entire albums are eargasmic.
nope.

I generally don't get a lot of music anyway, but it's sorted into 'rock', 'classical/orchestral' and 'all'. I suppose the only ones I don't actually like are some of the Weird Al tracks.

Generally I slip in and out of genera's. For a long time I liked KoRn and Linkin Park. Now I cant stand any of their music, when my hard drive broke last week I lost all of their music. And I feel like I couldn't care less.

Like most people here, a lot of my music I have to be in the mood for before listening to it. I tend to have a core group of artists who I enjoy listening to no matter what, though, like Dire Straits and Pink Floyd.

I think that it all depends on my mood. Most of the time, I hate like 50% of the music on my zune.

But the thing that makes a music player like that worth getting, are for those times, there is something in perticuler, that one dosen not listen to often, and you are in one of those rare moods, and it is just soo prefect.

I usually just keep one big playlist and use shuffle, and then if there's a song I'm not in the mood for, I skip it.

Lately, with the new update of Winamp I've been using (2.91 instead of 2.80), I've been using the Library. So I've been listening to a lot of the same stuff over and over again instead of using a massive playlist.

However, I'm starting to get bored of said songs, so I'm going to be going back to a massive playlist + shuffle soon.

I've rarely deleted a song since about 2000, so there are definitely some artists I can't stand listening to any more. Just don't have the heart to delete them though - they're almost nostalgic.

I like almost all of what I have. I generally go through any new music and immediately trim out anything that I don't like. Now, there are some songs that I am getting a little tire of, but they are still good.

I probably only listen to about 20-30% of what's on my Ipod.
I'm sure there are some songs I like that I don't hear often, but what I do hear I like.

I go through phases of hoard and purge, much like I do with accumulating crap around my house, so at any one time I may have loads of crap I don't really like, but the very next day I might go on a 3 or 4GB wipe.

By and large 60%ish of all the stuff on my system I love, but the other 40% is transient. Pausing to think, occasionally that 60-40 balance must be upset by new loves, so it slowly will creep up to 61-39, then 62-38 and so on until my poor decrepit ipod can't take any more...
2008-01-27, 3:59 PM #21
I occasionally delete something thinking I'll never listen to it again... only months or years later finding myself wanting to listen to it. I try not to delete stuff now.

I will agree, the first system cd was amazing. The rest I tihnk were good, but never on par with the original. Raido classics like "spiders" and "suger" and amazing songs like "pluck" and "suite-pee". Amazing CD...

I've found that most shuffle functions are horrible. I have far too much music to listen to in a standard sitting period. More than two weeks if I remember correctly. It's just that my players always play the same songs. Always. This results in me having to skip songs not because I'm tired of it, but because I just heard it.

I have the same issue.. shuffle mode sucks 99% of the time. On winamp, I have no issue with shuffle and repeats.

Don't listen to *most of it regularly. It's there in case I'm like "Holy crap I want to listen to XX song." Or hanging out someone says "Hey let's listen to some XX"

80% of the time I listen to local stuff, SOAD, NiN, APC, and Tool. (And bands similar) 20% of time listen to the rest of it.
