Thread about grilled cheese.

I've eaten alot of grilled cheese during semesters at the dorms because of how easy and unmessy (sp?) it is to make. I've heard many things you can do with Ramen but not with grilled cheese sandwiches.

Here's a picture of my grilled cheese (because I like to post pictures of my food). I've heard adding a slice of tomato is a nice touch so I should try that. Different types of cheese perhaps?

Fun with quick-food-at-the-dorms-to-eat-when-its-late-at-night-and-you-have-a-big-project-due -next day meals.

Grilled cheese with some kind of rye bread and white cheese. Mmmm

And eat it with a little ravioli. Yum.

It's kind of messy. You have to butter up a pan and stuff. It sounds weird, but a slice of apple or pear in a grilled cheese sandwich is pretty good.

Melted cheese is horrible unless on a pizza.

And even then it needs some sort of meat.
nope.

Yes, a very wet slice of tomato once the cheese is melted, get the skin of the tomato a little wrinkled and it's perfect for eating. One of the only times unripe tomatoes taste good, too.

You can just add a slice on the top of the toast, too. Either way, tomatoes add a lot to grilled cheese.

Could you please explain how one wrinkles the skin of a tomato?

One of my staple foods is the mexican equivalent: quesadillas.

Two tortillas, some cheese, salsa, and black refried beans. Throw it between the tortillas, and fold into a pentagon(or more sides if necessary), then flip it over so the skillet browns the folds. This will keep it folded shut, flip it over, brown the other side. Don't cook it fast or it will burn, and be filled with cold unmelted cheese. Preheating the beans is helpful.

grate multiple types of cheese for the sandwich to improve quality dramatically

also, if the cheese isn't melted enough toss it in the microwave

I had grilled cheese for lunch. I make it a bit odd as I tend to use very little cheese...and I use shredded taco style cheese. >_> Just put a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread, sprinkle the cheese in between the two slices, and cook in a frying pan. Delicious!

that did not in any way affect my ability to eat the steak.

Thus, inconsequential.

Microwaves destroy food. And american cheese is nasty. Cheddar and pepperjack are where its at. Brie is also good. And of course mozzarella. And feta. Cheese rocks.

Make you own pizza pocket, add a little pizza sauce and/or pepperoni

I like my grilled cheese dunked in tomato soup.

Add some ham and you have grilled ham and cheese.

I used to make grilled cheese sandwiches with a lot of American and Velveeta cheese because the processed stuff melts sooooo nicely. However lately i've been using grated Cheddar on whole wheat. Yummy also.

Put a thin slice of ham in it and dip in in tomato soup. :hist101:

Grilled cheese with spicy ketchup = Win.

Also: Oatmeal. Yes, oatmeal. The microwavable kind.

Yeah, I usually eat it that way, too. It's not that surprising considering you also eat it with tomato soup, or with a tomato on top.

Thats a great website to visit when the only thing you've eaten all day is a granola bar.

Hahaha.

A lot of them actually have the recipes linked, though. Good stuff.

When I'm hungry here at Madison they deliver food to your dorms :). Nothing like munching down on 2300 calories of cheesy bread.

But usually, when it comes to food inside my room, EasyMac ftw for me

My favourite is cheese, BBQ sauce, ham, salami and mushroom.

Oh my god, mushrooms! I can't believe I never thought of that before! My mouth is watering already..

I like mine recently with Brie and a small amount of shaved ham on italian bread. It seems anymore that my tastes are exceeding my college grocery budget.

Mozzarella cheese (sliced from a block) is the best cheese for any grilled cheese... however if you eat it with just plain sliced american cheese, dip it in ketchup... mmm
