BTW, IE8 due out sometime mid 2008 is said to be a helluva lot more standards compliant than IE7.

IE8 doesn't pass the ACID2 test, it's merely capable of doing so with relative ease.

For all intents and purposes, the improvements in IE8 mean absolutely nothing until usage of IE6 and IE7 combined drops to below 5% of the total (that's basically the point at which it's no longer economic suicide to say "screw you" to a section of your user base).

Wait what? I don't understand. I thought if the smiley face renders properly, it passes.

It'll be 10 years before that. People do not upgrade at all unless they are nagged to death. The only way IE7 is gaining traction is because of Vista. I surmise that because people are still on XP mainly, they're using IE6. This site says that at the end of Dec. 2007 44% of people were using IE6 still while 35% are using IE7. w3schools.com has both browsers in the 30 percentile and Firefox actually beating out both. I believe the former site more than w3schools.com.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Well, IE7 is going to be (or is now) a forced update for security reasons, so that's something. I doubt IE8 will do the same though.
