Blockbuster has spiraled me over one too many times. First they started limiting the exchange policy (You used to be able to exchange your mailed video for a DVD at the store. Now you can only do this twice a month) and then they stopped giving a single free game/movie rental (Which I was using to grab a single game each month.) Worst yet, half of the films I have on my queu are "long wait" titles, and end up taking months to deliver.

It's Netflix for me. I get unlimited online streaming, and all of the titles I want are either available, or short wait. My only question: Which plan?

Right now I pay:
1 DVD at a time for $11.99/mo

Netflix offers:
1 DVD at a time for $8.99/mo
2 DVDs at a time for $13.99/mo
3 DVDs at a time for $16.99/mo

The idea is that I could get the same as I get now (albeit a little faster) for less, twice what I get now for 2 dollars more, or 3 times what I get now for 3 dollars.

My Netflix service has recently improved vastly. I have the 3 at a time plan. It is averaging 1 day for them to receive a movie and mail the next one, with a one day journey back to me. 2 days per movie as long as it doesn't involve weekends. As you said, Netflix recently went to unlimited online streaming included with the plan. I basically never run out of things to watch now. No game rental but for me that is a non-issue.

The only long wait title I have on the list is Blue Harvest and for some reason the second disc of an anime show I was watching mysteriously became unavailable.

I signed up for the ".torrent" video rental plan; it's the best for my needs. There's no cost, and you can keep the movies for as long as you want.

I remember the good old days where all the posts about piracy or sex stuff would get you an admonishment or maybe even banned. Now I think it is only if you call something "gay".

Get the 1 DVD at a time plan, it'll come with 9 hours a month of movies you can watch over the netflix streaming movies thing, which is actually quite nice.

Well, as long as they don't actually discuss how to do it, eg. posting a link to TPB or anything, what's the harm? I think for legal reasons that's all you have to avoid, and it's not like everyone doesn't already know how to pirate stuff anyway.

Massassi has its rules and the admins are like the Supreme Court Judges that interpret them.

Except the admins don't keep records of past decisions and tend flip-flop alot. :P

As I stated in a previous thread, I connected a rarely used laptop to the TV partially for the purpose of using the Netflix Watch it Now feature. It is unlimited with my plan, maybe not with a one DVD at a time plan. The library of movies is growing but it is not such that you will find most movies on there so I don't agree with your recommendation. Plus, if you are correct about nine hours, you could use that up in a day or two.

I wasn't that serious about it.

I went with one DVD. I watched Cool Hand Luke and Helvetica last night.

Online movie watching is win.

Be careful. Netflix clings to douchebaggery if you accidentally send the wrong DVD back in the case. They'll make you send their movie back but will refuse to give you yours back.

How would you end up sending the wrong DVD?
2008-02-02, 2:30 PM #16
I don't think I'll have any problems putting the wrong DVDs in the sleeves.

I switched to two DVDs after adding over 100 movies to my queu, and only being about half way done with my list. I think that's going to get my list done a little quicker.

I get 2 DVDs at a time. I'm going to love Netflix even more when Watch Now comes to Macs late this year.
