...and with return flights to New York at only £250 quid, I could come over with my student loan and buy the place!

Any other brits thinking of going to America while the rate is in it's current state?

I realize how bad the current rate is, but I'm still submitting an application to study in Sheffield for the '08-'09 year.

It won't get better I'm afraid. I think 2008 will be a not-so-great economic year (which means a Democrat will be in the WH).

Americans are in serious debt. Foreclosures skyrocketed in 2007 (some 2 mil foreclosures). According to Federal Reserve, Americans are in total $2.51 trillion in debt. I think this "economic stimulus package" is not going to help us at all. We're being told left and right to use your $$ to spend spend spend! It'll help boost the economy! Horse****. A $600 check is going to do very little towards the economy. Yeah it might pay off one credit card but then there are four others to pay off. Americans need to stop spending their $$. If Americans continue their rank spending, we're going to be in some serious trouble.

I'm planning on taking that $600 and spending it on a nice leather easy chair.

Of course, I'm saving about 1/3 of each paycheck between my savings account, my IRA, and a 401(k). I don't think all of my American brethren share my situation.

The government is just as bad. At this rate we'll be lucky if we don't have to raise taxes just to pay of the interest on our debt.
