I wonder if it works with foreign cell phones that are just roaming. Maybe tourists and visiting businessmen can't open the door.

Dropping the kids off at the pool is a metaphor for taking a dump.

"light a match" is an expression some people use to warn others that they've been for a dump and stank out the bathroom I think.

No lighting a match and dropping it in the toilet after taking a dump gets rid of the bad smell, but i don't think that is referring to it. Maybe some people don't flush?

my phone is capable of sending text messages, but that feature is turned off. for some reason i am still able to receive them though.

The switch-like motion of a handle that runs perpendicular to the pipe coming out of a toilet and engages the flush is not unlike the motion one makes when lighting a match.
