Chernobyl - ghosttown

Hey all,
I just got creeped out by this amateur photo documentary of a local going through Chernobyl areas. Be sure to read the captions

Oldest... news... ever? But I have to agree, it's pretty cool.

That is a neat site, but it really deserves a :timeline:.

Old news, probably. But in 2008 I'm pretty sure its still the same over there

Yeah, the last time this was posted, didn't someone discover that the site was fake or something?

I just beat 'All Ghillied Up' and 'One Shot, One Kill' on veteran difficulty.

Probably the closest I'll get to Chernobyl

I missed the previous discussion about this so I looked it up on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiddofspeed

apparently she got up to Chernobyl and then took a guided tour while wearing a biking jacket to appear as if she rode through the town.

Even though it might be a bit fakey, that's still a great site with awesome pics. All the other serials like WWII fortifications etc. are neat as well, that region (Ukraine, southern Russia) has seriously hundreds if not thousands of neat areas to photograph and visit... hell, some are still practically living in Soviet times with blatant hammers and sickles and Lenins everywhere!

Fakey? Who really cares whether she's riding alone or as part of a group? She's still in Chernonbyl, and it sure as hell gave me shivers to see such a ghost town.

I've always been fascinated by the wildlife in Chernobyl, though. I wonder if the radiation has affected any of the plants or animals.

Lenins are still all over the place in Russia today. I travelled from St. Peterburg, from a large statue of Lenin at Baltic train station, to arrive at Priozersk greeted by an even bigger statue of Lenin.

Hm, I guess I didn't really pay attention to Lenins when I was in Moscow in 1997 (didn't even know about his mausoleum either)... and in 2003 I went to Сортавала (Sortavala) but only paid attention to cheap booze. Good times.

Call of Duty 4 has Chernobyl scarily accurate.

That ferris wheel area looks exactly like the extraction point for the sniper mission.

WTF is with all this CoD4 talk? Did everyone forget about STALKER and it's rather soon to be released prequel already?

I didn't get that far in stalker... but I don't think it has areas like the town in it, does it?

The final levels are set in Pripyat and Chernobyl. Yet most of the Pripyat streets were just loosely based on some photos from the town.

CoD4 does have a good pripyat scene. i thought the stalker version of pripyat didn't let you explore very much, it felt like you only have 1 path through the town which is quite a contrast from the rest of the game. maybe this new prequel will have some cool pripyat action.

Sniping in Pripyat was mega fun.

Except on veteran difficulty.

The only thing that is as hard as that is the Mile Hile Club achievement on veteran difficulty.

Anyways, Chernobyl is still my favorite CoD4 level :D

Maybe I should play COD4. :/

My little brother has it.

It's worth it dude, good story line + solid graphics + fun gameplay = good game

The online play isn't bad either, I recommend ~20 player servers though, anymore than that and you just get a swarm of nade whores throwing nades at every single possible second.

Good things: Pretty well balanced in most things, solid maps, random spawn points, loads of customisation.

Bad things: Martydom (a perk that lets you drop a grenade when you die, almost every noob on the planet uses it. Cheap kill ftl. Every corpse you shoot will explode after about 3 seconds because of it). Grenade launcher attachment, some people refuse to aim which dulls the online play a bit.

But otherwise it's pretty sweet.
