I'm curious.

Here's the problem: There is a middle-aged man who meets an older man at the park. The younger man states that he is 44 years old. The older man responds, "I am as old as your age plus half my age"

How old is the older man?

Um, it would depend on how old the older man is. We don't know what half his age is.

answer = 44 + (older man's age / 2)

Between those 3 answers, it has to be 88.

If it's 44, then he can't be 44 + anything because he's 44.

It's not 66:
If half the man's age is 22, then he's 44. but if he's 66 + half his age, then he can't be 44 and 66.

88 is the only one that works.

X + ½Y = Y
X = ½Y
X = 44
Y = 88

you don't need fancy lettermath to do this.

88 duh.

And you should have made this a public poll so we can see who answers 66.

WTF is the point of even voting now?
Wikissassi sucks.

I'm expecting Echoman to post something like "the real age is umm 580 + z man you guys are dumb" except in a much subtle manner.

I don't know how old that man is, he could be one million and six days old.

The answer is;

Who cares?
2008-02-11, 9:12 AM #14
I CARE.

We can solve this in more general terms too.

If the younger man is x years old and the older man is x plus some coefficient a of his age years old, y = x + ay. The old man is
y = x / (1-a) years old.

I pine for TEX formatting ;-(

Oh ho ho. Watch out. I fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee. With a baseball bat.

PS, who's the guy who voted 66.

You fly like a butterfly?

Thats pretty gay. I'd cut that out if I were you. But I'm not you, because I don't float around like a big gay butterfly.

That's the surprise. Would you expect someone in tights floating around to ruin your ****? You have to keep your enemies off guard.

It's like going to war in a bear suit. No one expects a guy in a bear suit going around shooting people.

Maybe by ruin my **** you mean he might attempt to ruin my *** like when he was in jail, but I'd shiv him in the yard.

We have the technology, we have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. We can make him better than he was before. Better. Stronger Fast-

Oh, oh six days old. Damn mind-typos.
