I'm curious

Here's the problem:

Say you have three apples, and then someone gives you four more apples. How many apples do you have now?

I'm going to pretend that I already knew the answer before I posted this but in secret I'll be thankful that Massassi told me the answer because I couldn't figure it out :( Word problems are HARD :(

God damn it. I wanted to be unique by putting 1, but two other buggers beat me to it.

Let it be known that I will end you for that.

Is this some stupid trick question revolving around the phrase 'Say you have three apples' and some mysterious stranger who curiously responds by giving you four apples?

That isn't mathematics. It's just bad syntax.

I'm guessing it's probably a trick question and you're supposed to say four, because you only "said" you had three apples.

Either way, it's a pretty badly worded question.

"let's say you had three apples and someone gives you four"

Well, I'd say you'd have four kind sir.

But that wasn't the question.

You're reading way too much into it; it was just supposed to be a parody of the other thread.

Anyways I do actually have an apple here; it's yours if you come get it.

Dammit, you were just proving a point about wording things poorly weren't you.

Fine, I'll eat this apple all by myself.

Even though he already explained that it's a parody, I can't shake the feeling that I've been tricked. .(
