Zelda Franchise

EDIT: The same game was listed twice, I fixed the poll error but now you might not have voted accurately. Warlockmish has disenfranchised you!

I just stopped playing Twilight Princess while I was at the water temple. Place seems pretty hectic to finish tonight so I was wondering about other Zelda games and what were my favorites.

Portables:
Oracle of Age
Oracle of Season

Only two portable Zelda games I've played.

Console:
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask

So, what are your favorite game(s) of the Zelda Franchise?

I only played a bit of a Link to the Past back in 1999 or so, thought it was lame and went back to Pokemon. Greasy gorgonzolas.

Ah, Z@NARDI, you played Majora's Mask as well? What mask was the hardest for you to get? For me it was that couples mask. Fierce Deity mask was hard as well because I had to get all the masks to obtain it.

Wind Waker had the best story and looks by far. The facial expressions were great, and I felt added some character depth. The ending was also fantastic. Yes, yes, you hated sailing. You'd rather run around a field again. I know, you wanted more dungeons. If it weren't for time restraints, there would have been. I really enjoyed the few dungeons there were, though.

It also had the best Ganondorf. Wise, world weary, and wielding two swords.

That looks like something from Samurai Jack.

May have one sword, but the TP Ganondorf beats Wind Waker Ganondorf.

Looking like something from Samurai Jack is in no way a bad thing.

Your list doesn't have A Link to the past, and The Adventure of Link WAS Zelda 2.
nope.

Me neither. I must have spent my childhood playing real adventure games on the PC. :colbert:

Doesn't matter. Ocarina is the best anyway.

And Majora's Mask was awesome, but is so often overlooked... I think that is the only zelda where I got everything. All the masks, items, upgrades, bottles. I don't know if I could stand to play the same dungeon over and over and over chasing those fairy pieces again. And the game only has 4 dungeons. :(

That flipping dungeon in MM is the best dungeon in any game, ever. It's more confusing than the water temple in Ocarina.

I've only completed the Minish cap for GBA, but it was amazing fun!

For me it's a push between Link to the Past and Wind Waker, both are sublime.

Never played 'em either.

With the exception of borrowing a friend's Game Boy to play Pokémon, I've never had a Nintendo console.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

If it hadn't been for A Link to the Past... I would have never gotten into Zelda.

wasnt Master Quest a harder Ocarina?.
2008-02-18, 11:59 AM #24
My friend played OOT long before i did, I didnt play it until i got master quest and played it on the Wii... but i beat it faster than i beat majoras mask... MM is easy too though. Even twilight princess wasnt too hard.

IMO Phantom Hourglass had some of the hardest dungeons ever only because the puzzles that required you to use DS only 'control factors' like the MIC and dual screens.

OOT, Majora's Mask, TP

Majora's Mask and TP were the only two that I legitimately finished on my own, although I didn't get full completion on TP (and I did on Majora's Mask) ... the only thing I'm bitter about is that someone STOLE my Majora's Mask cart after I completed it. (God that Couple's Mask w/ Anju and Kafei or whatever took ****ing forever).

The Oracle series were also absolutely amazing.

I don't remember what mask gave me the most trouble... I do remember having to use a walkthrough to find one only because I had no idea what it was.... The reward for getting all of the masks isn't as glorious as i had imagined.

Omni Link was awesome. Especially if you used the glitch that allowed you to use the mask while not on the Moon. Enjoy going around and beating the hell out of everything.

Zelda 2!!! ;)

Haha, I kid. I like a lot of them for different reasons. LttP was what got me into the series (I still love the first few minutes of gameplay in the rain, as it feels dramatic). It's hard not to like OoT or TP, but I also like a lot of the unique gameplay that came out of Majora's Mask. Wind Waker WOULD have been good if they had spent more time developing it and had a better ending (Not the final fight, that was cool. I really just don't like a lot of these newer Nintendo endings though. Maybe I'm just not getting what kids like these days... :P) Link's Awakening had awesome music. The only one I didn't like was Minish Cap. I'd personally place that just above Zelda 2.

Man, way too hard for me to choose a favourite, even out of the ones I've played (Link's Awakening, LttP, OoT, WW, and TP). I do remember quite reluctantly heading towards the final dungeon of TP, though, after trying to postpone the ending as much as possible. Sadly I saved outside of it to take a break and didn't get back to it before I left for Uni, and then my brother sold the Wii for Christmas money :(

I didn't really like the ending to TP... seemed like it left loose ends.

Twilight Princess felt hollow and soulless to me. It's like Ocarina of Time made a horrible chimera-like baby with Everquest 2 and then had the good parts removed like an Egyptian being prepared for burial.

I hate it when people say "But this is the game you have been asking for! It's high fantasy! It's not cartoony like Wind Waker!" when they know damn well that this is off the mark. I have never before played a Zelda game where I actually felt like I was being railroaded through a storyline. I've also never played a Zelda game where there are powerups that you will literally only ever use once. Twilight Princess was a terrible Zelda.

Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game. The graphics work very well for the series (although it isn't my favorite thing about the game), and the rest - the gameplay, the storyline, the fact that the game doesn't take itself so goddamn seriously - sits very well between Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past. Unlike Twilight Princess, which sits somewhere between Ocarina of Time and the gigantic bushel of cash that is Lord of the Rings.
2008-02-19, 11:25 AM #35
I agree with Jon. While some people poo-poo'd the graphics when it came out, for me it's the iconic Zelda for me, even though TP and OoT are more popular/beloved, Wind Waker felt like a zelda game more than any of the others.

Nintendo games (outside the metroid franchise) are great because they make me feel like a kid again. I work, I go to school, I get a BJ from a hooker every once in a while, but when play WW, I feel like I'm 12 again.

That's another good point. Wind Waker had great humor. I laughed quite a few times while playing it.

WOW, its sad to say that i have all of those sames (Excluding those Sega CD ones or w/e from back in the day).

I do have to say thought that the first 2 for nintendo were pretty fun. Ther second was a little less fun and was a diffrent style but still enjoyable.

The master of all games ever i will have to say is Ocarina of time. If you own a N64 you have that game (And Golden Eye). It was one of the best games ever, the king, if you will.

Though it got plenty of **** from alot of people, i would say that Wind Waker is another one of the best. It was witty funny and all in all alot of fun to play. I fell in love with that boat.

I have played it for both gamecube (which i own) and Wii (which was my Ex Girlfriends). By no means was it bad, but i just didnt get that same rush which a zelda game should deliver.

That, AND, I found it rather annoying being that woulf....

Ocarina of Time was the best one IMHO even though the water temple makes me wanna :suicide:.

Majora's Mask was alright but the constant cycling of the same 3 days and all the side quests you needed to do to get ultimate mask to defeat Majora made the game feel like a chore at times.

I have yet to beat the original Zelda game because of how long and difficult it can get (funny how so many old NES games are often harder than games today). I was only able to beat it once using Game Genie.

Zelda 2 didn't hold my interest long. The graphics were pretty horrid and I didn't like the change to platform game play.

A link to the past was a rather cool game. Its the only 2D zelda game I've actually beaten without cheating.
