I noticed my mobo's BIOS has a setting called "CPU Host Frequency" which is by default at 100 MHz. I upped it by a little and now my old P4 2.4 GHz Northwood runs at 2.52 GHz and there doesn't seem to be any problem. The CPU temperature is at 40C.

My question is: by how much is it safe to overclock this processor with stock cooling?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Just do it like all the other d-bags do it.

One step down from the step that makes it crash every ten seconds.

Do people overclock laptops? It seems like a recipe for disaster.

You'll just have to experiment and watch the temps really close, and kinda like what Rob mentioned, find a point that's not too hot and doesn't cause your OS to crash.
