the company i work for has purchased some new lab equipment. it's huge.
management has been after my boss to get rid of the 'junk' laying around in the service corridor and elsewhere.
with the imminent arrival of the new coating chamber and the constant hassle of having this old 'junk' in the way, they finally told him to get it out. no choice.
he told them that it was worth thousands and that they could sell it. they said just have it out by wednesday (3 days from the time of this conversation which took place 3 weeks ago).
i swooped in before the junk-it guys came and took some of it home with the approval of management.
i have 5 items listed on ebay and by 9:45EST saturday night i'll be at least $6950US richer.

woohoo!!! i guess that's my bonus.

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

i work for a large corporation. seems that's how they do business. idiots is right. they just wanted it out.
all of this equipment was older, ~15yr. but still functional.

gbk, it's a vacuum deposition system. we got it for a really good deal at $700,000US.

it's almost identical to this one.

i've coated for 17 years and used systems like this a lot. it's my fav as far as vacuum deposition systems go so i'm really glad we bought one.

Yeah, that's how it works. And the bigger the business, the more waste.

That is a good deal. The vacuum dep units I'm used to dealing with are far smaller, and cost significantly more.
