Making A Game

Anyone know how I would start about making a game? Any good sites, or programming languages? It'd be a simple game, like the old top down 2d games on the snes.

Something in the style of Flashback shouldn't be too difficult if you know the stuff.

I think theres a program called dark Basic that is used for making games, other than that, I know nothing about DarkBasic.

its expensive, though.

Are you trying to make your own engine? If aso, wait until Q3 engine goes open source, and then see how its done.

Sphere

Javascript based rpg engine, totally customizable(sp?), open source, difficult to learn, but once you have it, it's really easy.

Torque is pretty slick, I just bought it a few weeks ago... but it's a bit more complicated than "like the old top down 2d games on the snes." [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
If you don't have any earlier programming experience, I wouldn't suggest Torque just yet...

Right, and we all know Q3 is your only chance at seeing how an engine works, especially a 2D one. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Just buy one of those big books on Visual Basic or Java or C++ game programming for beginners because you'll come out of it knowing a real language.

If can afford to get Flash MX 2004, you can try learning how to make Flash games.
