$1,000,000 for change
2008-02-23, 5:59 AM #1
A 1,000,000 USD check made out to you is sitting in your mailbox. There is a letter attached explaining that you may spend the money in any way you see fit, but that it should be in an attempt to better our planet, mankind, or society in some way.

Given a million dollars, how would you change the world for the better?

First, I'd deposit it and wait a month to make sure it wasn't fake.. :ninja:
woot!

Deposit it, go skydiving lots more if it's real. But pay a carbon deposit for each jump, so I don't feel bad about the note.
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.

Reinvest it because $1m doesn't buy much these days.

Okay, to avoid the overabundance of "I'd invest it" posts:

You have to start spending in the first month.

$1,000,000 wouldnt change the world... you MIGHT change a small town. Maybe.

$1,000,000,000 would have been a more reasonable number.

Realistically, I'd probably donate about $50k to a church or charity and another $50k to my old university. I'd might also donate to schools I went to before that (highschool, etc.).

Dunno bout the rest.
2008-02-23, 8:08 AM #12
I think I would probably give it all away as scholarships... HAND selected by myself... this isnt Fafsa people.

You suck at understanding the value of the modern US Dollar.

I would give it all to Jon'C because the wisdom he dispenses is invaluable to humanity.

I would donate the money to help support public arts in my city. Statistically, kids who have afterschool classes and art programs are less likely to turn to drugs and crime. Not to mention it does wonders for the communities. Programs of this sort never have been a waste of money, seeing they get a mere dust particle compared to what is spent on the military.

Not really. I never said you have to help ALL of humanity. You're doing something good, and trying to invoke change.

Rather than give the money to a third world country like a retard, I'd actually use it to help build infrastructure so they can actually start to recover (but like most people said, 1 Mil won't do much).

You also gotta be involved in the whole process to make sure it's spent correctly.

Someone gave a lot $$ to my old highschool and then the new whore that we called a "principle" used it all to redecorate her office.

I'd donate it to an institute that opposes the church that IRG Sithlord donates his money to.

I'd open up an institute for midgets. We'd lure them in with fancy talk of taking care of them, teaching them useful skills, having nice recreational opportunities.
Then, once they trust us, we'll kidnap and brainwash them into becoming our mini-slaves to obey our every whim. We'd have mini-assassins, mini-cab drivers, mini-waiters, mini-moving end tables, mini-portable seats, mini-whatever we want.

We would also use them for experimentation, such as:
How man times can you gouge out a midgets eyes before he goes blind?
How man times can you throw a midget down a flight of stairs before every bone is broken?
How many midgets does it take to feed a lion until it is full?
What happens if you put a midget in a microwave?
What happens if you put a midget in a clothes dryer?
What happens if you put a midget in a box and tried to mail him to Somalia?
Things of that nature.

Find a good day trader, tell him I'll give him 5% off the top if he does everything he can to advance the money, have it done for the first 28 days, then start writing checks to better myself and further move towards my goals. You can't help anyone for **** if you can't help yourself.

Well, if I gave it all to AIDS-cure research, it really isn't that much. Same for cancer research or any of the other usual charities.

Therefore, if I was not allowed to keep any for myself, I'd give it all to my local church, because they would be able to do a whole lot more for the transients and hurting in my community with $1,000,000.

Donate it to Thrawn#
nope.

That's a good question. It'd take a long time for me to figure out exactly what I'd do with that kind of money to make the most change...

I'll post back laterz.

I'd probably buy incendiary explosives and go on a synogogue destroying spree. On Saturday morning.

I would buy massassi, and ban JediKirby.

I would donate it to my University, particularly the Optical Sciences College.

...and keep a little bit for myself.

You guys are disappointing. I thought at least some people might give this a genuine thought and see what they can come up with. Everyone's either too jaded to think a million dollars can do ANY good ANYWHERE, or they're too busy trying to make a cheap joke.

hmph.

Well kirbs you said the planet, Mankind or society. Those terms sort of lean towards helping EVERYONE at once. Something thats hard to do with a million dollars.

Also they don't take dollars in my country. :P
nope.

If you all donate your money with me, we can afford to buy a complete B-2 and then effect real change.
