So i just bought a new MP3 player. figured i'd get it to work easily. turns out this Sansa e250 is a little *****.

so apparently i need usb 2.0. fair enough, my machine is 4-6 years old now so i probably -do- need it. i go dish some bucks on a 2.0 PCI to usb hub. install drivers. voila.

For some reason, it still doesn't work. I -am- plugged into my new usb card hub but it says I need to use a 2.0 port for it to work. which I AM, but apparently my machine doesn't think so. really strange.

I have 30 days to return the mp3 player, so i'll fiddle and try at some other places to see if the actual ***** isn't defective, but if i can get it to work at home, woo.

so, anyone heard of anything like this? I think the Mobo redirects usb 1.1 power to my ports. maybe some sloppy IRQing? help!

You didn't install the software did you? You can use sandisk players just fine, but don't install the software, and make sure WMP is installed. It's the easiest way to interface with the player.

Does that PCI card have like a thing for a power plug?

I thought the ones that did USB2.0 had a power plug you needed to connect to the power supply.

No software for sandisk. used one before, that's why i bought a new one.

I'm using XP pro.

the usb hub doesn't seem to have any type of power cord in the package or on it. only thing it has is a USB slot on the card itself, inside the PC case, already installed the usb 2.0 drivers in case.

when i first plugged it in, my taskbar went, in order

Found new device! Sansa e250 media player
Found new device! USB Mass Storage

Error installing hardware, blah blah blah.. Error 10 (device will not open)

and on the usb 2.0 hub i just plugged in, it simply -doesn't- detect anything at all, or will detect an unknown device...

Can't seem to find it. It's a ALI chipset. 4 ports outside, 1 port inside. the package says Epass.

i went and changed slots. nothing either, tried the MP3 player in my roomate's machine. works wonderfully. My machine is definitely at fault here. but i -do- have enhanced ports in my device manager.

one thing though, i changed PSU's recently. could this have anything to do with it?

update. swapped cards. still nothing. the Sansa works well everywhere except but two machines. mine and a slow POS at work. the usb to pci seems to work as i just put in my 1gb flash key and it works wonderfully.

i think this is a Generalized usb problem. any wiring i should check on the insides?
