We had an earthquake.

Things wobbled for a bit. 4.7, epicentre in the north-west of the country. Any other Brits on at this god-forsaken time feel it?
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

We're nowhere near a faultline.

What?
nope.

4.7, not bad. You'll stumble and some small **** will fall down.

Once it gets to 6+, start worrying.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Yeah. Call me when you've been through a 6.9. Until then, don't talk to me. :P

Glad it wasn't bad.
Pissed Off?

But if you think about it. A 4.7 might just as well been that 6.9 to them. They don't have the earthquake retrofitting like we do.

The USGS have pegged it as a 5.2 now. It certainly made my house shake, but I was about 40 or 50 miles from the epicentre

Ha, I was up playing video games. An explosion happened right before the earthquake hit and I thought to myself, "...I don't have a force feedback chair". Then I noticed the rest of the room shaking and some of my flatmates coming out of their rooms :P

Don't know what you Yanks are always worrying about, those things are harmless >.>

It felt pretty measly in cambridge, shook the place for about 5 seconds, then it was done.

At most it would've rolled a pencil off a desk, but it was pretty damn noticable. I was leaning on my chair when it happened, I didn't realise that was why people always urge you not to lean on your chair.

awwww,

Ive only ever experienced a tiny <2.0 tremor down here in canberra. It was so tiny it may as well have been a large tree falling down.

fires and storms however, we have had some nasty ones, there was one about a year ago that was a FREAKING SUPERCELL, as in the type of cloud that can form tornados. methinks that there would have been tornados if the same storm had hit pretty much any other major city in australia, as canberra's terrain is not suitable for the formation of tornados.

As for the fire, well, just go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_Canberra_bushfires .

^^You've got to feel sorry for Michael Fish for that one. The guy who was on on the day apparently said it would get "a bit blowy". Considering that most of the woods in Kent still have the giant trunks of ancient oaks lying around in the undergrowth twenty years on, I think that was an understatement.

The earthquake was cool. I was sitting in a computer lab at the time and thought the initial vibration was people working downstairs doing some drilling or something. Then all the computer screens started to vibrate across the tables :P

^ Haha, I wished I'd taken a screenshot of all the Facebook status updates that came up in a row with something about the earthquake in them. Plus the idiots that created/joined groups saying "I SURVIVED the EARTHQUAKE of February 08!!!"
