Why does everything in KDE's GUI have to be massive? It's like most of the bars should be about HALF their height.

I started with KDE, but moved to Gnome for a lot of astetic reasons, that being one of them. I noticed Vista seemed to blow everything up too. View the control panel in classic view, and it looks like KDE icons chewed up and vomited on the screen.

The Avant Window Navigator is big, and I've never found it useful. I've used Macs, and thought the bar worked because of how well it was integrated into the UI, but AWN has always been clunky and more in the way to me. I find the regular taskbars far more convenient. But, to each his own, and that's what I love about Linux: lots of choice. :)

With Win98, I used to change themes as often as I changed wallpapers. I just haven't bothered with XP themes. I might start looking into them.

Uh, the bars tend to be resizable, if you haven't noticed.

I can't get any of the themes to work. They won't show up.

Yeah, if you want it to look horribly broken. Nearly everything on the taskbar is designed to work with that massive default size.

Uhh, the most massive thing in the shot isn't even from KDE. That's the avant window navigator. Most of the time it's below all windows, where the size doesn't bother me.

And if you do mean the bar at the top that might look a little bigger because my resolution is 1024x768 when there's no other monitor hooked up. I think it's more or less as high as Gnome's bar.

That said, to each his own. :)

Am I the only one who still uses the "Classic" (Win2K/WinNT) style plain gray taskbar and windows in XP?

I used to when I was XP.

Well, until I found b0se's styles, and i also dabbled with that shell replacement thing that I cant remember the name of...

It looked secksay, but never felt right...
2008-03-08, 9:21 AM #65
LightStep? As far as I know, it's the only decent shell replacement made for XP. I never really understood shell replacements, though. They're like the various window managers for X on Linux. Except on Windows, the default shell (comparable to KDE or Gnome) doesn't suck balls, so there's not much of a point.
